Mller Millermatic DM ATF fluid.

Hi

I am just about to buy a new Torque Converter and want some advice on Fluid.

Ive got 10 litres of Millermatic DM (already had it) and was going to use this.

Bristol Transmissions (where Im getting the TC from- thanks to some great reviews on here) obviously recommend their Ravenol ATF - clear fluid or LR's Fluid - also clear.

It has red fluid in at the minute after a megaflush from a local Indie (not sure what brand it was but its fully synthetic) Millermatic DM s red.

Anyone fitted a TC and used Millers fluid???

Any advice appreciated Very Happy

I use it in mine. Also used it in a 535d that had alot of transmission issues and after flushing it with Millermatic it cured the issue's. Millers have very good quality oils. Thumbs Up

Thanks Steve. - Thats reassuring. Smile

Pete K - can you elaborate? - whats so wrong with the red stuff?? - I agree its a good time to do it. Bear in mind the red stuff thats already in it has only done 500 miles or less? Confused

Cheers

Used to be the red stuff was std ATD Dextron 2 or 3 and was mineral based, newer clear gear is I believe syn based.
So if they have new made syn red stuff thats going to cause confusion in the future Shocked
A bit like Dot5 and 5.1 brake fluid, what tit thought of that idea?

Hi Lynalldiscovery.

Yeah I agree it could be. Millers is Fully Synthetic and the stuff the Indie put in was Fully Synthetic. is the red stuff just dyed clear stuff??

If i go with the clear its bound to have red stuff still in the box - unless I get it flushed - more expense!

It'd be easier for me just to add the required amount of Millers red stuff.

I think there is much more to oils these days rather than just if they are mineral or synthetic.

For example I think I heard it should not be conductive as there is an ECU in the gearbox.

If you are having a new TC fitted (with warranty) then you it would be wise to use an oil that the company recommends for warranty sake. and an oil which says on the bottle, suitable for use with ZF6HPxx

Ravenol ATF is value for money and is getting quite popular.

If the TC is coming out, most of the red fluid will be gone.

I guess a clean out of the radiator wouldn't hurt.

Hi Pete K.

Fair point on the warranty. I've never heard of Ravenol before Bristol Transmissions mentioned it. It is only around a tenner a litre. The oil in it is clean so the gearbox has had a good rinse.

Probably take your advice and get Ravenol oil and then I'm covered on Warranty.

Thanks for the advice Very Happy
