Oil pump changed.

I have just had my belts oil pump and water pump replaced for my peace of mind. My Discovery 3 HSE was registered January 2006 and it had the weaker oil pump design.
The garage I used said they had only seen one failure.
My advice is get it replaced and sleep easy until the next Bong from the dash.

 Transmission flush by Geoff.
EGR blanked
New oil pump & cambelt

Got mine done on my 2008, when the belts were changed - only added a small dent to the overall cast and could save thousands £ Thumbs Up

No, the pump is at/near the top area of the engine.
It just adds a short amount of time to the timing belt job, plus the cost of the pump obviously.

I had my oil pump done as soon as I purchased my Disco in 2015 upon the advice found on the forum..
Discovery XS Registered Jan 2007 was within suspect time frame of failure.
Got in touch with Flack and he did it...and how lucky was I .. Shocked
Small price to pay..

I believe it's '07's that were the worst, but had my '06 changed recently anyway as part of timing belts change, at 210,000(+) presuming it was original. For the cost on top of the belts it is a lot less than a new engine. Surprised

thanks for the reply. i have a brand new citroen/ FoMoCo pump ready for when i do the cambelt job this year but having not seen how pump is fitted i was thinking the sump would have to come off because of how it would bolt up along the bottom mating face ?

cheers ricko.

Yeah, I thought it was 07 and my 05 would be okay until the second time round on the belts. But an early 06 gives me the wobbly's.
Guess that's my dreams pre-loaded for tonight Shocked

I'll qualify my reply by saying I didn't do the job, but was present/close by when it was done, the sump wasn't removed (or all the oil drained) as far as I noticed. Surprised

Disco Mikey will be able to confirm.

Thumbs Up

You only need to remove 6 bolts underneath for the Oil pump, 2 short ones that hold the main loom, and four long ones that go through in to the Oil pump casing, no need to remove the sump, or drain the Oil. I am sure I did a How To for this Whistle

Flack Thumbs Up

When I did mine, I put all the bolts in finger tight, and pulled up the bottom bolts first to get a good seal on to the sump gasket, then tightened up the bolts onto the block.

So far so good. Thumbs Up
