Discovery the beginning

Well after driving my dads discovery i decided i had to buy this when it came up for sale, iv always been a bit ocd with my cars and owned a few rare imprezas my last bieng a p1 wih 385bhp/360flbs of torque, it became an obsession and i decided i wanted something built to be outside rather than tucked up in the garage for the winter again, but it needed to have been looked after and this appears to have been cherished for much of its life, i hope someone may reconise it and put me in touch with its former owner, or be able to tell me some of its history,as the fella i bought it off didnt really seem to keen to..,iv included some pics from when i picked it up a week ago and how i have changed it already,i couldnt stand the front lights being black but wanted the halos to stay so bought a second hand set of zenons and went about de-tangoing them and rewiring to take the halos again, upgraded all the interior and exterior bulbs to bright white leds to freshen it up a bit, also changed the grill to match the newer style rear lights and spoiler, and preferd the later DISCOVERY badge over the normal land rover one, changed the cambelt, and managed to change the fuel pump belt, insitu with out moving or unbolting a single thing also oil and filter change...and have the war wounds to prove it!! so far im really chuffed with how it drives and and has so many creature comforts that im not used to, all comments wellcome thanks very much munk

Hi Munk

Welcome to the forum (madhouse). That looks like a very tidy D3, the headlamps definitely look better than in black.

I am sure you will enjoy it Thumbs Up

Wow impressed that you changed the rear belt in that way. Fancy doing mine?!

Looking at the pics of the light refurb I thought your garage bench looks smart, then realised you are probably doing it in the lounge Very Happy

Halos look great by the way.

Thanks alot.. was trying to source a single line of leds to run up inside aswell but gave up and settled for the two rings...it was indeed my kitchen table that was used for the op. Very Happy

As for the belt.. ill have to pass im afraid..It was a struggle thats for sure.. a friend of mine said he had done his this way.. so not to be out done i cracked on.. just lucky i have womens sized wrists otherwise there would have been not a chance of getting in there.. even struggled pulling the pin out of the belt tensioner due to lack of space..

What an improvement to the headlight units. I also like the DISCOVERY badging. Looks like you've found a neat and looked after example, well done! Thumbs Up

I like the look too, but the only thing I would do is remove the DISCOVERY badge and put LAND ROVER back in its rightful place! Laughing

What year is your Discovery? If you fill out your profile we would know. Thumbs Up

However, 07-57-08-58 are most at risk from the timing belt tensioner pulling out of the oil pump casting. Earlier or later vehicles seem less prone, but not immune. Moral of the tale is to always change the oil pump for the stronger type. It is usually a catastrophic failure if it breaks.
