Heated D4 wheel fitted

Had my D4 heated wheel fitted today thanks to Ian (Narpy) while I drank brews and ate pies Embarassed I did help take my dash out and put it back in but the technical stuff like swapping the boards from D3 to D4 conversion and wheel removal was all done by the brains of the operation Bow down On the first attempt the wheel turned into a ring of fire as it was on permanently as it was not going though the switch and the switch would not turn it off. On the second attempt we sorted it and now its just warm and no need for the asbestos gloves to drive it, although I did think it would have got a little hotter after feeling it when we had a couple of wires the wrong way round. But now you can drive with it on and its just pleasant Thumbs Up

Dash and gear selector out to connect wire from wheel to 12v socket for switchable live for heated part .

The rear seat parts department Whistle

All done and dusted (well polished Very Happy )

Thanks ian for all your help. Top Man Thumbs Up

Glad you like it. It's not the first D4 to D3 wheel I've done but it is the first heated wheel.

A word of caution to other installers however. The D4 Wheel swap out is very simple provided you have the BBS boards installed but if you use an after market cable and plug to provide the heated wheel power, there will be no keyway to prevent you from reverse wiring the heating element. Rolling Eyes
What occurs then is the heated wheel remains on heat with the switch unresponsive so you can't turn it off. Turn the little power supply connector around however and all works correctly.
This shouldn't happen if using a genuine or bought from the forum shop item, but we needed one quickly so went with the after market plug. Wink

Great mod though but somewhat expensive when you add everything up. Rolling Eyes
Heated wheel is a great addition if you have cold hands, arthritus or you're a southerner. Mr. Green

We took the power for the heated wheel from the r/h cig lighter, which we had to remove to get access to the cables.
Most of the centre console + terrain response has to come out as does the hevac etc. just to release the damn cig lighter. Big Cry

Mark commented at one point we had more of the front of the car on the back seat than was in the front. Rolling Eyes
Still, it all clips and screws back in place and it goes back a lot quicker than it comes out. Thumbs Up

Great job Ian, and you Mark for watching, and the heated wheel is well worth the effort in this weather. Bow down
