Creaking noise from LHS of drivers seat |
|
Recently had the dealer replace the seat frame on my MY 2013 to resolve a very noticeable and noisy creak as you drive the car.
Despite replacing, when you turn right or go around a roundabout (Bracknell has more of these than trees!), there is a seriously annoying creak coming from the base of the seat.
Dealer had car in and said they'd fixed it by padding out between the base/frame and the plastic covering with some tape. Picked up car it hasn't fixed it at all.
Anyone had similar or any suggestions? If the frame has been changed for a new one under (extended) warranty, could it be the rails the frame fixes too?
Any suggestions gratefully received, OCD cannot take it much longer Luke

Hi Luke,
I'm just going through the same issue as yourself but with the issue occurring on left hand turns.
So far they have applied the rattle and squeak kit (tape and lubricant from what I understand) and the issue disappeared for a couple of weeks before returning.
It's going in again after Christmas so if anything comes to light I'll update this thread!

Have you tried shifting your weight about in the seat to see if there
is a quiet spot?
Are you a more generously proportioned chap?
I'm just wondering if the seat cover may be shifting against the foam
which in itself could cause you issues long term with the heated element.
Not a clue really but there are only so many things that could be causing this.

Good spot Gaz, and would have to say yes to the diplomatically put question
After they changed the seat frame, I noticed some fore and aft movement in the base of the seat which was the main gripe. Over time, it's gotten worse with the creaking.
Due to go back in to show it to the engineer who said he's fixed it (and who I suspect weighs about 4 stone as he couldn't reproduce it). Also going to see if I can take off the plastic surrounding the base to eliminate that as I'm confident it's the seat Luke

Check the seat belt receptacle where it rubs the seat base. Mine would make a fairly noticeable creak. There is a pad stuck to the receptacle but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Thanks Swansty, found that one already.
Doesn't do it on drivers seat but if the wife or of the kids sits in the passenger seat, the buckle rubs against the base/bottom of seat back and creaks annoyingly.
Bought a wide roll of Velcro tape and used the 'soft' side to resolve this Luke

So, popped by Lancaster in Reading yesterday and showed the issue to their Service Manager Terry. Completely agreed it's an unacceptable and very annoying noise.
Took the car for 15 mins and returned with no creaks!
Said it wasn't the seat frame or indeed the seat base rails but there is a 'plastic valance' on the base that sometimes gets pushed up against the base. Pulled this out and quiet as you like.
Thumbs up for Lancaster in Reading Luke

Apologies for reviving an old topic but I've got an annoying drivers seat creaking on a MY12 d4 and wondered if you could provide any pictures of what the dealer did to FIX? Thank you!
