Id say interior design is more important than you release - the best designs are ones you don't even notice. Don't forget that LR subbed out the interior design of the Disco 1 to a "design studio" back in the day. Seems they have just brought it in-house now.

Eh? You're thinking of The Times. The Telegraph is a Tory rag owned by the shady Barclay Brothers (as Private Eye refers to them) who are British and live in a castle on a private Channel Island.

If it fails to meet expectations sales wise would it be dropped all together ? and focus more on range rover range or go back to basics on a Discovery ?.

What normally happens is the failed model just gets replaced earlier than planned. Costs a fortune but saves face. I wonder if the D5 shape will last as long as the D3/4 ???
Maybe that's what I need to get my optimism back... start predicting what the D6 will be like !!!

If what dealers are saying is true, the D5 isn't going to disappoint the accountants. More pre orders than Evoque at launch apparently.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

It would be a fairer compaison if LR had stopped building the FL2 for 6 months before the Evoque was launched and there had consequently been a 6 month backlog of people who'd had nothing new to buy. Do remember that 6 month's D4 sales would equal 26,000 units lost. Are they claiming over 26,000 pre-orders?2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Regardless of what we think it'll sell like hot cakes. Whilst there are element of design we don't like, practicalities removed, etc., the fact remains that as a large SUV to compete against X5 and the ilk it's a winner.
They now have D5 for yummies that need more seats and RRS for yummies that want more luxury
Between them those models see off X5, GL, ML, and various other letters in the alphabet including Q7
Interestingly a friend of ours recently moved from car with split tailgate to a car without and absolutely hate not having one now - they didn't realise just how much they used it until it had gone.MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)
