D4 auto headlamp sensitivity |
|
Hi. I have just changed from an 07 plate D3 to a 62 plate D4.
Both have the auto headleamp on/off function.
With these slightly darker days, compared to summer, the headlights are often self powering on. I always leave the switch in the auto position.
But now with the D4 they seem to be so much more sensitive than the D3. They are on a lot quicker with the 4 compared to the 3.
I have DRL/fog lamps retro fitted and it is nice to have those actually doing some work, but in the last month they have only been on twice. The headlamp auto function, although great, seems to be on from darkness, to cloud, non cloud and even blue sky with the car driving away from the low sun.
Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity? Anyone?
I do wonder if I have a trip to the dealer would they compare mine to a showroom car?
They are halogens not xenons.

Mine are not that sensitive, only really come on at dusk or when passing under bridges. Possible duff sensor on the dash? Take it you've not accidentally covered it like I did when I first got mine?

The sensitivity of the auto headlamps/rain sensor can be adjusted using an IID tool. I've done it successfully on my MY2010, the MY2016 seems fine so far. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

CFB.
The first thing I did was to clean the sensor area of the windscreen at the rear view mirror. That is clean.
MrH
I don't have an IID tool, but I think I know a man that might.
Thanks

I agree, they're very sensitive on my MY15, they seem to come on very early. I can come out of a tunnel and they won't go off sometimes until I'm in direct sunlight which we have very little of this time of year.
Need to find myself an iid tool then. Cheers Scott.

Ah ha!
And here was me thinking I was on my own. At last someone who thinks the same.Bloody anoying, it is????
I have a LR expert with said IID tool. Now I just need him to see if it can be done.
I was hoping that maybe there was a small pot. by the sensor under the plastic cover on the windscreen, but that might be too obvious to the boffins at LR HQ?

Big time considering one of the reasons I was drawn to the disco was because of its DRLs. I might mention it when it goes in for its first service in March however I can guess what their response will be "that's the usual behaviour". Cheers Scott.

The thing that annoys me is that they will come on on main beam, whereas sensibly programmed German cars always switch on dipped. Can this be changed in settings somewhere? Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

The "auto lights on" threshold is <100lux on a vertical and lateral plane from the sensor located in the windscreen.
Not sure why this is a PITA ? Surely if you don't like what it does ....then you have the option not to use it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Are you sure the left (indicator stalk) is not set to main beam?
DG.
It is a pain, because the older D3 appeared not to be 'over' sensitive. That was all!

No worries
If you look back to the D3 in the early days there were lot's of threads where people felt that they weren't doing as they were supposed to ...mainly not coming on at all in dark conditions. Ultimately though the activation is only responding to the parameters set...and in winter on an overcast day it's so easy to hit the <100lux point 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Cheers DG.
I might have to wait until we have less cloud / less rain bearing cloud!!!!
So it looks like maybe May?
But I'll have a go with an IID tool inhe meantime.
