Bottle jack
Saw some comments recently regarding the reliability issues of the L/R standard scissor jack as supplied with the vehicle and the suggestion to carry a bottle jack instead; can anyone recommend a particular brand/model/weight capacity that suits the purpose please? Can it still be used at the recommended vehicle lifting points?
Thanks,

Under the wishbone for quick wheel changes. Never tried it on the chassis as I have a main jack for that at home.

Thanks fellas, that's useful info; I'm well impressed with the L/R bottle jack. I assume the saddle on top is a bit of modification on your part J@mes?I'm off to a party with the RNLI tonight. They may not get together very often, but when they do, they certainly know how to push the boat out.

No it's standard fit - the jacks were supplied with older LR's that had beam tube axles and the cap is there to securely fit the tube while jacking.
It fits lovely under the wishbone on the D3/4 and can have the wheel in the air with only a few pumps on the handle.
I carry mine in my Amarok now (tube rear axle but wishbone front) and generally use it whenever I want to whip the wheels off quickly as my main jack (Clarke 3000) is heavy and noisy!
I prefer the LR jack compared to other bottle jacks as it has the cupped head and is also two stage hydraulic, whereas quite a few you get now have screw out stage and a hydraulic stage, which seems a bit more fiddly.
Only trouble with the LR jack is they are pretty rare second hand

Yeah, rarity is an issue; I've just Googled them and am getting negative responses wherever I look. May have to go down the Merc Sprinter route and some saddle manufacturing of my own at this rate....I'm off to a party with the RNLI tonight.
