Absolutely...it's all very well being in a car that looks modern/generic/ dynamic/awkward (depending on your opinion) but all the time the drivetrain options are a 10 year old diesel powerplant that needs additives to get it across the line or a petrol that'll be more than a tad thirsty then you really aren't buying the full new product.

Be patient if you can and wait for the hybrid powerplant - if they don't have one inside three years they may as well forget it for D5 being a class leader and pack it in.

Buying a brand new TDV6 is surely bending over and giving the gov't free and easy access?

I noticed the new XC90 doens't have a split tailgate either.... gutted Big Cry

This D5 will only stay 2 years, then I'm seriously thinking about an I-Pace. The XC90 T8 appeals but it's price isn't so appealing.

I'm thinking in 3/4 or so years the new Defender will have some electric capability.

The new lr5 looks like someone booted the number plate over sideways? It makes the vehicle look twisted from the rear, but I must be honest, it , the lr4 are the last of the box shape dating back to there first 4x4,s built in uk so in knowing that I'm in no rush for the newer shape, just wait and see how it pans out , I no they give them great reviews when there new but has it got the donkey in it as a true work horse like most box shapes before it, you no , a good strong chassis etc, everyvehicle built these days gets built lighter for fuel economy so they tell us, but thinner materials means less outlay lol

The D5 is strong enough, and aluminium is lighter but more expensive.

Interestingly, this was something that was discussed on the factory tour at Solihull a couple weeks ago. According to the guide, the aluminium / bonded / riveted body production lines were considerably more expensive to set up than their steel equivalent but, by not having to use huge amounts of energy to weld the shells (it's odd seeing body assembly without sparks flying!), the energy savings had recovered the original additional capital investment within 5 years.

Growing on me

I am not prone to knee jerk reactions when a new model is launched, so didn’t rush to judgement over the looks of the D5. I had one as a loaner for a week or so and it was a nice car to be in; the looks did seem incongruous however. Tonight I followed a dark red one on the motorway and I have to say it is growing on me.

Very Happy

I've had a Disco 1,2,3 and 4, loved them all, but sadly will not be able to justify the cost if a 5. Looks wise, Landrover have lost it, every model looks the same, and they look like a car a footballer or model would drive.
