Offside Rear heated seat not working
Hi,
I have a Disco D3 S model and the one rear seat won't heat. The button lights up when you press it but the seat doesn't warm. (The near side one works fine).
Over the weekend I had the seat up and using a 12v probe I found that power is being supplied to all the plug connects - I checked both sides of the plugs so I know the power is getting up to the seat.
Is there anything else I should check before I start looking for a new seat? On that note, can I just buy the replacement heating element or is it a whole new (second hand) foam unit?
Also - do I need to buy the back as well, this isn't heating up either.

Ian, it sounds very much like the heating element has given up. They are changeable but tricky and in some cases I understand, repairable if you're handy with a soldering iron.

Mine is nearside rear (where my wife sits when son sits in front) My mother may be 90 but she has sussed that the one behind me is the hot seat. We tell my wife that its the padding she has on her backside that does not let the heat through The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

Is it possible to check the element circuit is intact using an Ohmmeter?

Thanks for all the replies.
Are there any guides on how to strip down the seat do you know?
Or do you reckon it's just as cheap/expensive to buy a complete 2nd hand seat?

Measure the resistance across the heating element then compare it with the resistance of the known working heater, this should give you an idea if its goosed or not.De-Tango

Sorry, my testing abilities so far stretch to finding a live wire with a light up probe!

I repaired my drivers seat yesterday...the element will be burnt out i have done lots of them now..take the cover off and you will see the elements it will be black where it has gone i use the metal bit of a heat shrink..ps i have a nice toasty bum today lol

Thanks Craig, is it fairly easy to get the cover on and off? Should I just get the seat cover off first and check?
Does the element being burnt out mean that both the seat and the back fail to work?

There is torx screws under seat the the base will lift off then unclip the cover...the base and the back is a circuit if one fails they both stop working..off my experience its only ever been the base that fails

OK, so the seat has beaten me
On Sunday I had the seat out and set to removing the cover. I had watched a video on how to do it so I wasn't worried about cutting through the ring clips, but I only did the one side so I could review the situation.
What I found was the heating element is welded to the base foam and there was no obvious break in the wires.
Then I had a thought, perhaps the heating module that is strapped to the side of the seat under the cover was duff, so I swapped it over to the other side. When I tested it on the seat that did work, it still worked, so the problem isn't the module.
So I don't know what to do now, I have a multimeter but I don't know which wires to test to see if there is a break.
I'm thinking I either live with it or look out for a new seat?

They normally go where the bar goes on the outer edge i would just double check before buying new seat...if second hand u may have the same problem
