Has anybody fitted a citreon C6 2.7td to a discovery 3 ?

Need an engine for my discovery 3 2.7 and have just seen for sale a citreon C6 2.7td which states it's the same engine as a discovery 3.
I've also seen people commenting on a Peugeot 407 coupe engine is also the same.
Any truth behind it, much work if it fits

Citroen is front wheel drive I think? Surely that makes it non compatible.

Different block so not possible. The Jag engine will fit once parts are swapped over and the engine is dressed for the D3.

The Jag S class had the 'same' engine too.

Perhaps the blocks might be the same, and possibly the heads. But the sump will be different for a front wheel drive, and the Jag has 2 turbos vs 1 on the LR installation, so I think you'd be much better off finding a LR engine to swap.

Do you definitely need a whole engine? Perhaps a set of heads, some pistons and con rods might be enough?

* Robbie beat me to the reply...*
New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

Just found this on pistonheads about the citreon c6.

As you know same/similar engine to that used in the jaguar/land rover groups cars as the 2.7 tdv6 so check for common issues. Think that on the disco the turbo(s) are hard to get to but on this the engine will be fitted in the orientation as designed with access and a lot less stressed than lugging a discovery around boosting hard from cold.

Not sure how much of the engine is damaged. It's in local LRR dealers to diagonois the fault but first conversation suggested it was turning over well and was showing a crankshaft sensor fault... Until I asked was the bonnet lifted and if anyone noticed the hole in the front of the timing belt cover with normal oil pump housing failure.
Trying to get contribution but I'm looking at a other options as no warranty on the vehicle now

Sorry to hear about this. You could try BLRC in Saintfield, they might have a breaker car about. Otherwise the consensus seems to be Eurojag for an engine. You could also try MMJ as they are sponsors here?

Hi guys, found this. Ford and PSA peugeot designed the v6 engine and was fitted to a few different models. But it seems it's very similar other than the obvious sump difference. The sticky bit seems to be the transmission bolt pattern is different.. So unfortunately It appears that it not going to work.

The Lion engine family was developed and manufactured at Ford's Dagenham Diesel Centre for use in PSA Peugeot Citroën vehicles (as DT17 as part of joint venture begun in 1999), Jaguar Cars (as the AJD-V6), and Land Rover vehicles. The engines share the same bore/stroke ratio, with the V6 displacing 2.7L and the V8 displacing 3.6L. The V6 was launched in 2004 and as of 2011 also serves in Ford Australia's Territory SUV; the V8 in 2006. The V6 engine meets the Euro IV emissions standards. A 3.0L was added in 2009 and is based on the 2.7L.
Common Construction
The engine family utilises twin overhead camshafts and multi-valves, single or twin turbochargers with an air-to-air intercooler, and innovative compacted graphite iron (CGI) block construction that leads to a low weight of 202 kg dry. Fuel supply is high-pressure common rail direct injection.
Lion V6
To improve the engine’s low-speed torque range for off-roading and towing applications, Land Rover installed a large capacity single-turbocharger, rather than use the twin-turbo design; in addition the engine is fitted with a large engine driven cooling fan to support low speed, high load driving as may be encountered in desert conditions. Furthermore, the Land Rover variant of the Lion V6 includes a deeper, high capacity sump with improved baffles to maintain oil pressure at off-roading extreme angles and multi-layered seals to keep dust, mud and water at bay and different transmission bell housing bolt pattern. The Lion V6 – constructed from compacted graphite iron[1] – is a member of the Ford Duratorq family and is produced at Ford’s Dagenham engine plant;

So it's going look that jag/landrover is going to have to be sourced if I've no joy with LRCS.

Thanks Swansty,

I tried BLRC last week and he said they've only really 2/3 discovery 3's in with serviceable engines in the last 5yrs. Need to keep the pressure on LRCS to see what they say. Buying an approved LRR vehicle from a dealer that has only lasted me 30k, in my eyes is completely useless and unsatisfactory.

I will try looking a little harder after the holidays if no satisfaction from LRCS.

some data here

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_AJD-V6/PSA_DT17

the Jag engine originally had a twin turbo set up later models a single
the twin set up was a sequential turbo smaller one work from lower engine speeds & the lager from higher speeds....both worked through a common intercooler.

I had one & although the S-Type was said to be underpowered my S-Type pull like an express train...constant power on tap right beyond 100mph
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
