Just had the tractor serviced at its first birthday. Main dealer used Castrol Magnatec Professional A5 5W-30 but I'm not sure this is the right spec oil (should be WSS-M2C934-B says the handbook). Only reference to the specs of this oil on the tinterweb I could find was http://cvolvo.co.uk/castrol%20magnatec.htm
Is this the right stuff for the D4 3.0 SDV6 ? MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

yes, this is the right stuff. SDV6 use WSS-M2C934-B 5W30 spec.
the post refered is this one, is periodically updated when a new one appears:
http://www.discotr.es/viewtopic.php?p=101508#p101508
check it, there are two new oils in the market with your engine needed oil spec since the listed ones in previous post
edit: forgot to clear the quote...now ok

Well my dealer didn't use any of the above and what they did use wasn't the right spec, so should I be concerned or should I take it back and ask them to use the right stuff ? MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

I don't think Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A5 is the right stuff as it's only WSS-M2C-913-C and not WSS-M2C934-B low ash which is what your D4 with a DPF needs. However, a large LR dealer I used to use claimed they always put it in all Disco's when servicing!!! I said that wasn't acceptable for the D4 and took my business elsewhere.
I have a feeling it's common for dealers to use the 913 spec oils but I have no proof... we'll see in a few years when there's warranty claims on the DPF.

Got a courtesy call about the service from the dealership today and I raised the issue about the wrong spec oil - said he would investigate. Got back to me 10 minutes later and reassured me that they had 100% used the 934-B spec oil, but apologised that the billing system was out of date and had printed a different spec. I was the first person to have spotted this in the 8 months it had been wrong
Thanks for all your replies on this. MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

You could always ask them to reprint the invoice showing the correct spec of oil

Or maybe not...if your engine goes to the dark side out of warranty you could claim with the incorrect oil spec detailed in the invoices. but this only of course if you want to be at the dark side too...
Sounds a bit strange that the dealer puts the correct oil in if the invoice shows old spec, i say this because the new oil have higher price than the old...so...

hmmm, I would be wary. Magnetec A1 5-30 (which is an A5/B5 oil) is ok for D3 & D4 non DPF.
The correct spec for D4 with dpf would be as stated above Castrol Edge C1 5w30. C1 is the vital bit for low ash
From L/R's special service message:
WSS-M2C934-B specification engine oil used in DPF equipped vehicles 2.7 TDV6, 3.0 TDV6, 3.6 TDV8, 4.4 TDV8, Defender 2.2 Puma and Freelander 2.2 TD4
•Castrol EDGE Professional C1 5W-30
WSS-M2C913-B/C specification engine oil used in 4.2/4.4 AJV8 Gasoline and non DPF Diesel engines 2.7 TDV6, 3.0 TDV6, 3.6 TDV8, 4.4 TDV8, Defender 2.2 Puma and Freelander 2.2 TD4
•Castrol EDGE Professional A5 5W-30
Although Magnetec 5w30 A1 is also perfectly suitable also.
The price of the Edge C1 is alot more than 913B spec oil!
HTH

Steve

Whatever it was that they stuck in it cost me £80.40 plus Vat. Hopefully it was as they assured me, the right spec. MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

Sorry to resurrect this old topic. I just did my first engine oil and filter change on my 2009 Land Rover Discovery 4 TDV6 3.0 D, without DPF (VIN SALLAAF and confirmed by visual). I used Castrol Edge 5W-30 ACEA A3/B4.
Is this alright or do I have to change it to follow the specs which according to the manual is: For Diesel Vehicles - SAE 5W-30 meeting specification WSS-M2C934-B only. If unable to find, an SAE 5W-30 engine oil meeting specification ACEA:C2 can be used.
AFAIK, ACEA:C2 is for those with DPF but mine doesn't have one. I'm confused.
