How do you check suspension bushes?
Hi All
I've had my Disco 3 now for 80,000km and it has just ticked over 200k. Not sure what the previous owner had done suspension wise, though it all looked rather clean when I got it.
There is no general noise form the suspension, but over short sharp speed bumps at low speed and when just taking off up hill there is a small noise. Recently I've noticed a shimmy under brakes (but no pulsing through the pedal). Only does the shimmy some times and I think I've pinned it down to only happen when the steering is off centre. This happened both before and after new tyres.
With all 4 wheels on the ground there is no movement of the tie rods. I can push and pull on them side to side and front to back with no movement. I raised the rear (one side) and the control arms appear to be centred in their mounts (not drooping on collapsed bushes). I then raised the wheel with another jack and watched each bush and they stay centred and rotate freely. No vertical or lateral movement that I can see. A big screw driver sees no movement either. Did the same with the front and get similar results.
The only thing I do see is some very small play of the ARB bush, but I have the spacers to fit to see if that helps.
Am I missing something? Anyone have a good guide for inspecting the bushes?

Shimmy could be warped discs.There are two rules for success,

Travel at 5-10mph and dab the brakes, if the bushes are worn you will hear a bump and one or more needs replacing It can when others can't,

I had a wheel bearing knock from low speed fierce speed bumps, there was only a bit of play in it and no noise while driving.

That was my first thought. But I don't feel anything through the pedal and it is not there all the time. If the brakes were warped, the pulsing would always be there.

Well. Did some more research and thought maybe wheel bearing. Raised vehicle then jacked the wheel up by the lower control arm. I then tried moving the wheel Top to bottom and left to right. I have movement left to right, so that brings the tie rods back into question.
So, should I just do the outer on both sides or do the inner and outer?
