A couple of things:

I do not favour LED light bars (for various reasons, but reflector size does make a big difference. LED light is also poor.), but if you must go for one, go for one with reflector facing LEDs (e.g. PIAA RF Series or Lazer Triple-R). This allows the LEDs to be used most efficienty and gives much better beam control. LEDs will not produce a genuine spot beam if that is what you want (it's due to their physical size vs a filament of HID arc) but I suspect you do not mean to use the term literally.

Remember, increased lumens does not get you better throw/vision. Candela and lux matter more, but on top of that, beam control matters hugely - the important thing is to get more light down the road and less nearby. Often people try to get both thinking that going down the middle is better - the argumentum ad temperantium - but what really happens is that the adjustment of our eyes means each one cancels the other one out. More foreground illumination will reduce your ability to see further, so a nice tight beam pays dividends versus an unrefined show of power.

Keep in mind that road-legal lamps pale into insignificance compared with many of their non-road-legal cousins.

HTH Thumbs Up

thks, what a great location of the switches , looks oem , what switches are they please, or did they come with the kit

see you've got a roof rack so imagine easier to hide the wires

if i had the money would get a second hand A bar then fit some KC spots , but there silly money now

is it true leds don't produce enough heat to melt any snow off them , but with the amount of times we get snow isn't worth worrying about,

but those leds do look good , especially off road ,

did see where they have some small LEDS all neatly fitted in the grill , only seen them for a defender

Bow down Bow down Bow down

ST4's are a flood combo, have mine set just over the range of headlights. If Santa does his job properly there will also be a set of Triple R750 E's added to the mix for longer range.

Did not want to mount on the roof and also I obviously had the ARB winch bumper to mount on. My mechanic, a 4x4 specialist especially for offroaders, I believe used the supplied wiring looms.

The two smaller outside spots are facing slightly outward.

The throw of light is truly awesome.

The back light is set to flood and also provides decent light when reversing.

I do not have switches as my front lights are legal with the main beam and the reverse light is wired into the existing reversing lights.

You should note that roof mounted are only legal for on-the-road use (including green laning therefore) if fitted inline or forward of the front axle - which is why you see them on trucks but few cars.

You can have them fitted you understand, just not allowed to use them Whistle Whistle

My understanding is that roof mounted lights are in fact road legal in the UK if E-marked etc. It seems to be a common misconception, perhaps due to the front axle requirement which featured in the 1976 EEC directive, but the 1989 Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations states that there is "no requirement" for both longitudinal and vertical positioning of main beam lamps and said EEC directive was amended by a 1997 directive stating:

Quote:
6.1.4.3. In length: at the front of the vehicle and fitted in such a way that the light emitted does not cause discomfort to the driver either directly or indirectly through the rear-view mirrors and/or other reflecting surfaces of the vehicle.

So, to my knowledge, roof mounted main beam lamps are A-OK. Thumbs Up

My understanding is that roof mounted lights are road legal to have fitted - you just can't use them on the road to light your way Thumbs Up

As I do a fair bit of green laning (also the highway) that would make roof mounted lights completely useless to me. Cool looking maybe, but useless. To me at least. I tend not to fit things to my car just to look cool.

My mechanic is also an MOT testing centre. I was pretty happy with his advice in this.
