Tow electrics no live feed
Hi all
Standard d4 my10. With factory installed 13 pin wiring. Car is currently in sleep mode and I have bought a ctek and adapter wired to pin 9 and negative 13.
I can only get a power recording on the multimeter when I wake the car and start it up?
Looking to charge on a nightly basis from the rear of the car
Any ideas
Cheers
AJP

Very silly question have you double checked you have got them in the right pins?
Worth getting a multi meter on the car socket to check if you get a voltage when the car is asleep

Hi thanks for your note
Yep that's exactly what I did once the car goes to sleep the power on the multimeter stops but fine when awake.
Would have thought permanent is permanent but obviously not?

According to the diagram I have for a 10MY D4, the permanent supply to the tow electrics is supplied directly from the battery via Fuse 48 in the glove box fuse box and there's no relay or FET involved in it.
It should be permanent.
Be careful you are not accidentally wiring to pin 10 (some plugs have the "10" marking very close to pin 9), pin 10 is the "engine running" 12V feed which would tally with your measurement.
Check the socket directly:

Thanks guys this is weird as definitely on 9 pin. And all factory standard looms etc.
Ironically the ats on the van only activates once the car is started so consistent but also wrong as it should come on straight away when plugged in.
Is this correct??
Thanks

Just thinking. The car computer was set to 7n&s and we changed it recently to 13 pin when I changed the socket. Do you think that has effected it??

Nothing to do with the setting as the permanent feed is direct to the battery via fuses. Not computerised/relayed.
Have you checked the 13 pin socket as in the diagram above or only via your plug?
Worth a check of pin 10 to see if that is permanent. It could be a miswired 13 pin loom.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Hi
Wow it's cold outside.
Just checked the socket. Pin 9 has no power using both earths. Must be in the loom from car to the socket.
Just found the box to the wiring harness landrover fitted it's VPLAT0012

I don't understand. If a fuse is blown how could it be live with the car awake but dead when car's asleep.
