Finally replaced the TD5 after 11 years
As the title says had my TD5 Discovery for 11 years and decided to scratch the itch.
Picked up my 3 last weekend 2006 SE diesel with 85000 on the clock.
Seems to have been well looked after by the previous owner.
I have since invested in a IID BT and also a fridge for the cubby box (who wouldn't)
Also picked up a set of roof rails from a member on here (ta muchly)
Not got round to fitting them yet but will when the temp rises above zero.
Been having a good play with the diagnostic and so far managed to display the 4x4 info on the screen and also updated the ECU for the clock on the dash.
couple of snaps of the new 3

I see that its fitted with 20" wheels and tyres, can someone tell me what would have been fitted from new, I am presuming these were fitted by a PO.

They are D4 wheels. It could have had 17, 18 or even 19 when new.

Ying & yang, had mine 10 1/2 years. Poorer financially with servicing costs but maybe not long term as I'd have changed the car ever couple of years as I got bored.

I had a disco 2 that I towed a caravan to Spain a few times with. Did 200,000 miles (not all mine!) and changed quiet a few parts on it.
Now on a 3 and the difference in torque and more legroom in the boot for my growing kids is worth it.
So far on the 3 I've freed off a stuck turbo link , fitted an air dryer recon kit, changed a perished rubber sunroof tube elbow that was a pain in the fingers and just finished fitting a headrest screen kit.
All cars have faults . It's keeping on top of them that matters ! Enjoy the car.D4 HSE

I was looking for a good TD5. Looked at 9 04 Models and all had terminal rot in the rear chassis. We are talking about selling prices of 5-7K. Most disappointed and not one good one. Getting too old to be welding up chassis now - back is knackered.
Decided to spend a little more, bit the D3 bullet and went and bought one. Dealer just outside Peterborough, just off the A1, was very accommodating, but soon found out that what was promised was not what I got!!!
Failed dip beam that was supposed to have been rectified was bodged and packed up by the time I got home, had to remove Headlamp and replace the internal connector myself (burnt out and dodgy), 'Good" tyres ended up as damaged on the inside (should have seen it but looked great), had to get two new ones. The 'Oh you may need to put a bit of air in the near side rear as has go down whilst standing on the lot was B****ks (not advised until they had the money). It had damage down to the chords!!!
Should have known better. Too busy checking every thing else worked. Picked up the dodgy FEAD belt tensioner which they changed. But as the tyres all looked good, great tread looked new passed on elsewhere. Learning point is have a good look on the inside!
The D3 is a great drive, but will probably be a money pit, it's a Landrover!!! Had them since 1979 and should have learnt by now.
Love it!!!!!!
