Blanking the radiator for cold weather?
Does anyone cover or blank a part of their radiator for quicker warm up?
When the temperature is between 6 and 12 warm up is quite slow. Below 6 the FBH is on, and works fine to aid warm up. Over 12 is also not a problem.Richard

Logically it seems like a good idea but I can't remember what it was I read (probably on here) about it being a bad idea.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

(sort of) like the old days of sticking a blanket over the engine at night to keep the cold and damp away.
My now missus (then just a glint in my eye) did this on her ancient Ford Fiesta over 30 years ago - forgot to take it off and drove about 6 miles to work - caught fire and destroyed the car and caused a humungous traffic jam in Stockport town centre as the amused Firemen put it out (especially the one who showed her the remains of the burnt blanket to her and told he thought he'd found the cause)

No, thermostat is fine. As I said, it's about rate of warming up rather than not warming up. Richard

From the seller:
Do not drive any distance with the
centre flap closed. The cover is
designed to be closed at night or
when parked to protect the radiator
from extreme weather or whilst off
road to stop ingress of muck, water
and mud into the radiator. Always
make sure that it is not causing any
problems with the temperature
gauge as a guide, though the product
shouldn't effect this.

And in Sweden you are provided with a "winter grill" for your Discovery 4 otherwise you risk getting frozen condensation from the intercooler in the turbo... This winter grill has just the same function as an old radiator curtain. Really interesting in a car that cost £50.000 new in Sweden.

I was commenting on my old disco 1 ,I'm not sure about Disco 3 usage with the muff on .The 300tdi discos have no problem with the muff on all through winter.
Some owners even take their viscous fans off as they are very cool running.
