Replacement Engine Pls ... Any Advice?

In the unfortunate position of needing a replacement engine for my Landrover Discovery 4 (2010). Big Cry

The cost quoted by Land Rover dealership is equivalent to writing the car off, so I'm looking at other (cheaper!) options.

Unfortunately there's some rogues out there Shocked

Had these guys on the short -list Global Engines (quoted £2,995 reconditioned engine inc fitting) but steering clear after the Rogue Traders report ..http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5mzXMVhR19L47jS2SSrntBL/ideal-engines-and-gearboxes

I'm now looking at MKL Motors, Grays, Essex £4,995 inc fitting - does anyone have any experience pls? http://www.mklmotors.com/

Final option is purchasing an engine from NWS £6,100 (with £1,500 refund if I send them my engine & the bearings are ok). Then using my trusted local fitter who reckons it's a week's labour £1,600
http://nwsmotorservices.com/en/

Unless anyone else has got any other suggestions please?? I tried to contact Mick (?) in Dundee through this forum, but as I'm new, I'm blocked from doing.

Any advice / contacts appreciated Bow down

PS I forgot to mention ! .. I need the cheapest route possible as trading it into dealership on 15th Dec (price already agreed eek) so I just need it driveable! With it's present dead engine.. it's not! Sad

Thanks Swansty, I just found Disco Mikey in Dundee & called him. What a helpful guy. He mentioned Eurojag, CWS (he uses) and diesenginesrus.co.uk (based in Barking, Essex) as possible suppliers someone else mentioned.
He cautioned to avoid re-conditioned engine & fitting but in view of trading it in very soon & needing the cheapest route, it maybe an option, but difficult to know who to trust as the price quoted isn't what you end up having to pay with some Sad

These guys have quoted £3,000 (with £450 refund on my engine ..

https://www.dieselenginerus.co.uk/

Can collect in 2 days or deliver in 3 days.

Not bad price but, I asked the question why the 2 – 3 days if in stock, he told me they have to check that the engine they have is exactly the correct one for my vehicle. It takes them 2 days to check comparing pictures from their laptop to the engine they have. If it isn’t a match they have others ‘on the shelf’ that might match.

Just sounds dodgy but what do I know? Sad

Just out of interest, what was the problem with your original engine please? I'm a paranoid 2010 owner!!!

Oil low light didn't come on so I ran it without oil. Engine now 'needs bearings' or replacement. No excuse not to have checked oil should do routinely, but I didn't, can't turn the clock back.

Have now listed the vehicle on ebay for £10k. (Offered £15k trade in by dealership only a week ago). Lots of enquiries from traders who purchase Land Rovers to fix and sell on. Nearly all of them told me the failed oil light is very common and known to landrover. One claimed to have taken a vehicle where the same thing happened and vehicle only done 40,000 miles.

Lesson is not to rely on warning lights, do regular vehicle maintenance / safety checks. Sad

Thank you. I do check the oil level, but will make sure that I do so more often. Sorry to hear of your woes.

Puzzled how such a low mileage vehicle could run out of oil, unless catastrophic leak? Our 530d BMW has done 160k, has never needed topping up between oil changes
