Possible alternator failure?
I'm getting a very nasty screeching/grinding noise from under the bonnet when I get to 1700 revs (was 2000 on the motorway last night, but today it's starting at lower revs )
I had my dad rev the car with the bonnet up and fan cowling removed, and it seems to be coming from near the alternator. Can the bearings on the alternator fail but the alternator still charges the batteries? as I'm not getting any problems from the battery.
Cheers,

Hi r4ff
Just drop the alternator belt off and give it a spin , if it sounds noisy when you spin by hand you ve probably pinned it down

Cheers every one! I replaced the tensioner today
Not only had it split, but there was several mm of play on the wheel as well, so no doubt it wouldn't have made the trip back to camp from York to Emsworth 0_0what is this life, if full of care?
