Vibration at 700rpm (idle speed) smooth at 800rpm

As the title says really, I seem to have been banging on about this for ever, in and out of the dealers but comes back just the same, I must admit the last time it was in they did seem to try hard and have managed to improve it a bit, they fitted new streering wheel damper.
All the work seems to be trying to dampen the vibration rather than finding the source of the vibration.
It's now easy to demonstrate the problem, you don't have to drive the car just move the rpm upto 900 or above let it drop to idle and you feel a shudder. Big Cry
I am thinking of getting someone to pull the fuel pump fuse while the engine is running, to see if I can do a quick test before the engine cuts out, at least I could eliminate the fuel pump.
I'm going to book it back into the dealers, I just wish some one on the forum could give me a suggestion to pass onto their technition who is open to any help. Thumbs Up

My guess would be a small crack in an intake manifold.

Buy a can of brake cleaner aerosol, and spray all around the inlet manifold, and air intake joints under the bonnet.

Any change in engine note indicates an air leak, and will need investigating Thumbs Up

I had a vibration problem and the dealer said nothing was wrong
My issue was as the revs went below 900rpm there was a slightly lumpy vibration.
Eventually they found the brake switch was faulty as the brake switch also has something to do with fuel flow when slowing down or at idle.
You should as the dealer to look at your brake switch

Any potential interaction with the brake switch could be ruled out by selecting Neutral or Park.

Robbie, my issue would occur either being in Park or Neutral

Hi Robbie
I took the the engine cover off this morning, armed with a can of brake cleaner, but where is the inlet manifold Embarassed the last time I looked at a inlet manifold it had a carburetta on top and was opposite the exhaust manifold. I think I had just pass your suggestion on when I book into the dealers. I did pull the fuel pump fuse but the vibration was still there, so at least I can rule out the fuel pump. I only suspected the fuel pump because the low pressure fuel line vibrates like mad, this vibration stopped with the fuse pulled, but my main vibration was still there Whistle

Well Disco's been at the dealers since Tuesday, doesn't look like they are getting anywhere. Had a call today (Friday) to say landrover technical said change an engine mount, so they did, trouble is it had already been changed, didn't make any difference. They said they will have another go at it on Monday, so watch this space Whistle

I have heard of vibration caused by a damaged viscous fan, ie physical damage to the plastic fan blades etc. ..... Worth a look I suppose, or perhaps get the stealers to take the fan off and run engine momentarily to see if the vibes go away Question ...........Just wondering.... do all D4 's idle at 700 rpm? Ok mine is a D3, but idles at dead on the 750 rpm mark.

I gave the dealership another call today, to see how they are getting on with fixing my car, seems not very well, they still can't diagnose the fault, the mechanic is on a course so I have been told to ring again tomorrow. I'm getting very frustrated, thinking it is just being left parked at the dealers, may as well be parked in my drive, at a least I could use the car.

Been with the dealers, this time, for a week and 2 days now.

Sounds very familiar. Must be the dealer I've been using.

I wonder what happens if they concede and say they can't fix it? And I may as well come and collect the car. Big Cry
