Only had my Disco for a month so a week away, I am sure going to miss it. But a week in some nice warm weather and a great city, I think I can bear it. I have been once before and really loved it, anyone else been

Served there during the mid-eighties as a Squadron Sergeant Major. Lived out in the New Territories in Sek Kong. Broke SWMBO's heart to leave. My son Gregory had a wonderful time. Smashing social life. Culture shock stuff if you get away from the crowds (difficult!). One of my soldiers (Chinese), was the head honcho of the local 'Tong' which made for interesting times when they weren't 'chopping' each other to pieces! Laughing Mmmm, I love the smell of dead, green pigs lying on the pavement in the mornings (if a pig died they would just dump it by the road......nice). So many memories with just a few not so happy ones from the job side of things. Sad to leave. Have a great time. Thumbs Up

Been to China a lot of times, but never made it to Hong Kong yet. I'm guessing it'll be like a faster, bigger, more westernised Shanghai.

I went 3 months after handover, it was an interesting experience, but not for me. To big, smelly and expensive, I far preferred Singapore.

Went to Ladies Market one night and their version of a beefburger vendor with a cart was a wee guy, sat on the road with a primus stove and the meat placed on the road prior to cooking, and he had a queue, barf!!!!!!!

Some places to try:
Stanley Market - usual tat and some great local eating places for authentic cuisine
Excelsior Hotel Causeway Bay - great Sunday brunch with champers 12:00 - 15:00 or if you long for pie and beans, go to the Dickens bar in the basement
Big Outdoor Buddha on Lantau Island - via MTR or ferry. Reasonable entry fee that covers a plate of noodles at the cafe
Ocean Park - coo at the pandas
The Peak - with everyone else !
Wan chai computer market - use the MTR (exit F from memory)
Nathan Road, Kowloon - every copy available but there are some genuine retail outlets as well
Lan Kwai Fong in Central and Lockhart Road in Wan Chai - bars and well, you'll see for yourself
Fish restaurants on Lamma Island including the fabulously named Wan Kee Seafood.

Excellcior Hotel - happy memories - spent first 7 nights of my honeymoon there back in November 1992
Loved Hong Kong, great during the day and great (but expensive to a just married young lad) nightlife
