Are you the filler cap to hold the trigger open?

If so you have the cap the wrong way round as it open the trigger fully Whistle

I have a fire extinguisher pin on my key ring. It works on every fuel pump and don't have to stand there waiting. I do fill up 2-3 times a week though so gives me time to empty the rubbish.

trying to think if I've used HGV pump for D4 ... it certainly was ok with 300tdi and saved many many minutes.

ASDA opposite the Trafford Centre certainly has a "pay at pump" HGV pump ... but now there is a Costco fuel station just behind it, probably use that if I'm in that neck of the woods.

I'm not bothered by the wait while it fills, but I am bothered by the spilt diesel that I usually have to stand on (and then tread back into the car). I'm just imagining the disasterous spill if an unattended and jammed open pump were to dislodge from the filler when in use, or if the auto shut off were to fail (I've had that happen!) Shocked

I don't mind the wait, it would break my heart having to pay for fuel that's running down the paintwork or on the forecourt, should it over flow.

Even though the car is filling by itself you still have to wait, what do you do to kill the time? Have a cigarette? Use the mobile? Laughing

tried Costco last Thursday ... after 5 minutes of trying to get the pump to recognise my membership card, gave up and went to ASDA next door.

The HGV pump now has a standard sized nozzle ... IIRC when I used to use it, it had something like twice normal diameter but that was ok with 300tdi ... but flow rate was higher than normal pump so me and my ยฃ72 parted company quite quickly.

As I recall its now in Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal, and the Netherlands you have to keep sqeezing the gun. Only in a BP in Ayamonte [Spain] it still holds, but thats a serviced station and the bloke doesn't want to squeeze it all day long... Laughing

Sorry for resurrecting a (slightly) old thread but it's something I've thought about a few times, points, none particularly important being;

- remember as a child in the '70's/early '80's that petrol pumps in the UK (some at least, our local Esso) did let you lock the handle on.

- driving from the UK to Italy, as we do quite a bit (Italian wife), the countries where fuel is cheap, Luxembourg & Austria, both have this feature. Belgium (certainly), Italy (think so, can't be sure) don't, can't remember about Germany as we rarely fuel there (being as it's between Luxembourg and Austria).

- I tend to use the squeegee bucket to clean the windows while the tank is filling. Why don't we have those in the UK? (Actually obviously because we're too busy squeezing the pump handle).

- As someone who also rides a bike *anything* that increases the chance of diesel getting onto the ground is *bad*.

- I was actually impressed with the woman in the video, maybe she's not got much imagination but if flames were leaping from my petrol tank and pump nozzle, I'd probably leg it (for the avoidance of doubt that's assuming my family weren't in the car!); not pull the pump out, stopping the flow and put the nozzle down away from the car before then legging it.
