Gearbox Fault - Sorted! Thanks Barnwell Motor Engineering

On my recent road trip this Germany, the car threw up "gearbox fault" 3 times, getting stuck in park, neutral to drive in traffic causing it, and once under hard acceleration coming through a bend.

Talk about anxiety, wife and 2 young kids on board, and only had the thing a few weeks, -and it's self combusting in a foreign country.

Spoke to a few garages and the main dealer, and fobbed off with the usual "can't fit it in for 2 weeks and will need to investigate etc etc".

Rang Barnwell Engineering local to me in Milton Keynes at 5pm last night, and he was the first person to actually show any interest in it and asked what it was doing, explained it to him, and he said, pop it in in the morning, as he thinks it's probably the selector bushing, and if it is, 20 minute job.

Popped down at 9am, and he popped it up on the ramp, plugged in his diagnostics and then looked at the linkage and confirmed it was that, needed greasing up, and realigning. Apparently a common fault as they are not greased at the factory.

In and out in 20 minutes, absolutely brilliant, so pleased.

All that anxiety for an easy fix, and something that should've been done when the car was built.

Cheers Land Rover for all the unnecessary worry.

I use Brandon all the time for my Discovery and what the man doesn't know isn't worth knowing. Highly recommend them.

It is better to replace the whole selector arm bushes bolts and nuts the kit comes with new bushes Disco Mikey or AF can supply the kit not expensive. Lubricating is a get you home fix really.

Went back in today, and diagnosis was electrical fault:

Reconfigure gear box module software.

Does that sound plausible? Wants to at £120 Shocked Mr. Green

Warranty Direct won't cover it...
