Its passed another milestone - the connectors are the correct ones and the looms just plug-in!

I've been lucky though, as the ecu has another connector with the same pin layout but a different shell to prevent incorrect fitment and the loom was made with with the correct one. I need to verify that the looms work with an early D3 as the wiring diagram shows the high-speed CAN bus on one of the connectors but its not fitted to my vehicle. Either there was a change in which case I need to test that everything still works, or the documentaiton is incorrect so the twisted pair can be omitted. Getting closer!

I've ordered the 1st batch of looms. The looms support the original canbus wiring and the 2010 canbus wiring and the module supports both the original (possibly up to early 2007) and later height sensor / ecu electrical operation. It has been tested in a 2010 D4, a 2005 D3 and a 2006 RRS to date with absolutely no problems, with the RRS about to give it a hard-core workout at Stockton beach, judging by the 265/70-17 MTRs its wearing.

I hope to have them ready for sale in 4-6 weeks. I am in discussions with 2 possible distributors who appear quite keen to sell (a bit of an understatement), with one having service facilities so can fit them if needed. I prefer not to be selling them myself but will do so if agreement can't be reached with resellers. The device has been given a name.

The switch settings now provide different operations depending on the way it is configured as part of the installation.
A. partial (+30 mm approx) and full raising to off-road height
B. lowering to high-speed height (-20 mm) and raising to full off-road height
I'm happy with these options as they don't exceed the original LR heights, only remove the speed limitations, although that doesn't stop the driver from selecting a + or - height whilst at other than normal height.

Sound like an excellent way around some legal issues too Graeme. Wink

config A would raise it either 30mm or the 50mm offroad height but with no beep beep lower the suspension just when you want it?
config B strait to 50mm off road? still with no bong?

Just got my D3 - I went out today into a very muddy area where I definately needed the extra height above offroad, quite a few times - came back with a panel removed from under the front grill - no other damage! where I go driving this height is almost mandatory most of the time.

you mention "although that doesn't stop the driver from selecting a + or - height whilst at other than normal height.[/quote]
hyperthetically - not that I'd ever do it - does this mean the system can be lifted to super offroad height/another 50mm ?? at the touch of a switch if required - hyperthetically of course

Yes, off-road height without bongs and auto-lowering because it is used whilst at on-road mode height instead of selecting off-road mode height.

If selected whilst already at off-road mode height then the vehicle raises another off-road increment, somewhere around extended mode height, but the extra height is speed limited due to using the off-road mode height switch. I've not tried doing the setup using access mode height instead of on-road mode height but that should give more than off-road height on the partial setting and more again on the full setting, both whilst in on-road mode.

Edit: When testing on an 06 RRS and configured and selected to lower on the partial setting, selecting access mode height caused a message to remove the obstacle from under the vehicle because it could not physically go any lower, presumably down to the bump stops! Switching my box back to normal or de-selecting access mode cleared the obstacle message. However my lowering has since been changed to only lower by 20 mm, not 30 mm as tested, so might no longer cause the message, but of no concern if it does.

Hi Graeme

Will it be possible to remove your little addition from under the bonnet easily while leaving the cabin wiring in place just to hid it from, well you know who! The switch could be anything on its own in the cabin.

Either way...you will have sold another one. WELL DONE Thumbs Up

Cheers Rob

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rob!

The kit will include a loop-back plug to fit to the loom if just the module is removed from under the dash. The people currently evaluating the demo unit will check to see if it can be detected by their diagnostics although I can't imagine how it could. Having the vehicle rise some 5 seconds after flicking a little switch might attract some unwanted attention though, and frequent unplugging of the switch from the pcb runs a greater risk of pcb or wire damage than unplugging the module with its robust wiring and connectors.

I don't care LRA find it as my D3 is out of warranty. The question, rough pricing and how long do I need to wait? I might just head off to see the Cooper across the Birdsville Track.

Its at least 4 weeks away due to the production time for the 1st batch of looms with slightly different specs to the supplied demo loom. I had indicated that it would sell for less than the cost of a set of adjustable rods but as I'd prefer to sell via distributors, the price is likely to be a bit more even though I've found most of the components are considerably cheaper when purchased in bulk. Testing in the 06 RRS is on-going, hopefully with a good report after this week-end.

Once its installed, the only part visible is the small switch & LED. In my gallery is a picture of the demo kit. It will use a sub-miniature toggle switch to be as unobtrusive as possible.
