Air compressor fail
Hi folks. Looking for some advice. I Had a new air compressor fitted to my 07 discovery commercial. The new air compressor is fitted approx 5 months or so and I've done about 4k kms. The compressor part is fine but the 12v motor is TOTALLY TOAST. As a matter of interest. Should I have some kind of warranty on the unit. Never the less I have sent the motor into an electrical rewind company to have motor reconditioned, new brushes, capacitors and motor rewond. Is there a parts list for the motor. Any help would be great. Thanks for readingDicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

Did you replace the OEM Hitachi with the AMK version. If so, the ECU needed updating. I don't think the AMK needs to run as long.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Sounds like your relay has stuck and the compressor has continued running, the relay should be replace when replacing the compressor.
As for parts for the motor I've never found any but then never tried to look for any,it maybe a good idea to put a wanted ad up someone might have an old unit about with a failed pump side and a good motor but you will need to state which type you have i.e. AMK,doubt it hitachi or Dunlop. Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.

To be honest i do not think the relay was replace but not 100% sure of that. i did take time to monitor the compressor before it failed and did notice that it would cut out after a period of tim ie. refilling tank after going into offload height
Yes that is a good idea to post a wanted add for the motor section, and the new motor is a dunlop
Could you please tell me if its possible to refurbish a motor like this, do you know whats involved
From speaking to the motor service department. its quite possible but the cost of it is the same as a new compressor, i have been quoted €475.00 + vatDicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

Wow very interesting. ive been reading a few post and they do seem to give up the ghost quiet easily, do you know what part number the amk compressor is, on the AF site it seems to be the covered unit, why would you not want a cover for it, Cooling?, i do get up to alot of mischief with my commercial discovery 3 and id say i might be better of with some bit of protection for itDicovery 3 (Rimini Red)

just had a look on advanced factors web site. the amk without the cover not listed any more maybe best to give them a ring iirc it was about £375.00 compared to £700.00 with the cover !!!!
I will get round to fabricating something out of aluminium when I get chance

I Might Look into that, I got my compressor back today with a fully functional motor, so I fitted it back on the car, and motor starts and bing bong.shuts off after 30 seconds,, I am so p ed of with it now, I ran the compressor of a battery and found that I can block the compressed air coming out quit easily. So next its the rings, damn, i took the dryer apart and it looked as if it was 10 years old, the galvanised disc that are in it are totally rotted away, anyway the thing is . i have it less than 5 months do you think i should send i back, can get a refund or replacement, Dicovery 3 (Rimini Red)
