New Tow set up ... thoughts

Hey Guys,

I recently picked up my new trailer. The tow height I had was too low causing a lot of weight to the coupling. (see below)

I thought I would attach a drop plate to my witter fixed towbar to allow to hitch up higher and even the nose weight.

Have yet to test it and was wondering if anyone has used a similar setup?

All the weight is going to try to pivot the hitch, probably be ok, but fabricating a method to mount back to the tow eye would be my preference , when a hitch like that is fitted to Defners etc they are supported top and bottom Thumbs Up

I did similar for a NATO hitch some years ago

Presumably the trailer is not too heavy? in which case I don't think it should flex too much.

Any way of lowering the hitch on the trailer - perhaps bolt it to the underside of the A-frame instead of the top..?

I would suggest you use 4 bolts to fix to the LR draw bar rather than two, or at lease use a spreader plate, especially under braking it will be flexing on the top two if not restrained.

Definitely do something like beanie did to attach the back plate to the tow hook at the top. Also it's only held on at the bottom by two bolts can you put two more in where the empty holes are even if it means drilling trough. Four bolts would stop it flexing as much until you get it held on top.

Does the front runner get the ball high enough though, don't they get to std ball height?

I had that one. Iggy now has it. It worked very well but it now says a recovery hitch. Mine went through at least 8 MOTs with no issues and its approved outside of the UK.
