Sorry to say it but zero sorry many of us have tried but no good sort one issue and another pops up you can end up sending half the cost of a compressor trying to fix it and still be left with a lemon Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.

Can't say about success rates but it is worth to rebuild it.
If the silica gel resp. the powder is invading the pipes and valves the system needs to be cleaned anyways.
Just give it a try. The kit comes with gaskets, lid and silica gel I guess.
Have you searched fro any leaks before?Achim

I used an eBay sourced repair kit, new piston seals, silica gel and a metal drier cap, back in June this year. So far it's still ok. Not long I know.Simon.

Hi Achim no I have not investigated for leaks yet I'm hoping it's just the end cap that's cracked which seems a common fault , just don't want to throw good money after bad trying to repair it ! Is it just me but surely these should be lasting longer than this

The new cap and repair kit has worked for me for about 16000 miles. But I keep a second hand Hitachi that I picked up cheap, ready to use if the one on car fails.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
