3 Years Ownership - Total Cost breakdown
So I called to insure the car on the 15th October 2013, that's a few days shy of 3 years ownership now
Absolutely love the beast, and would not want to swap it for anything else (Well perhaps a Disco 4 or new Defender one day ).
But........Running costs have been a tad bit more expensive than probably all my other previous cars put together
I've kept a log of everything I've spent on her (Excluding 'Nice to haves' such as roof rack, ladder etc) and here's the running totals:

Some oh so very expensive months at the beginning, but I put that down to not joining the forum and learning about the pitfalls before buying it
I average £455 a month (Inc fuel, ins, tyres, repairs, servicing etc) a month, which is more in one month that SWMBO spends on her car in probably 1 year
What have I spent to date keeping her on the road, I hear you ask?
That's £5619 a year
Cheap month so far in Oct, with only a new set of tailgate struts needed, but probably another fuel fill needed
I'm happy to carry on tracking the costs, as it'll help me decide what I can afford in the future
Oh one last thing.......If it were not for 'Woody32' I think you could easily add a grand or two on top of these costs, he is a top, top, service and fixing man and has saved me much £'s over the three years

I keep all my car expenses on a spreadsheet. I've had mine just over 1 year. I have spent £1064 on repairs, including a service, and all oils changed, new battery and ARB bushes and drop links, 1 new wheel bearing, and some tyres. £1702 on fuel for 9370 miles.
Total cost 1 year, nearly 10k miles £2766 Richard

What mileage have you put on it? I've put 200k KM on mine in 5 years and without pulling out all the receipts excluding fuel there is no way I've spent anything close to that. Mine is a 06 and hasn't had anything other than standard service items in the past year other than extras which you also excluded.

40k miles in the three years, so not huge amount.
£2000 in repairs etc came in the 1st three months though, all thanks to my lack of knowledge and understanding
But most major jobs done now, so mainly maintenance costs for a while Iggy/Ieuan

Erea, check your bushes for wear as I expect your front and rear arms will be well worn after that much mileage.Dave

Oh don't worry I keep well on top of all of those, anything like that gets replaced as soon as it needs doing. suspension is spot on and it gets Hunter tracking after any work.

Hi,
what about depreciation
is it similar to the None fuel list, first year is the worse,
but then the longer you keep it the lower the average/year cost will be

We have to distinguish between real repair cost and preventive maintenance.
I admit to say, owning a D3, reading the posts and being part of this forum is responsible for you to become hypochondriac
That is the root cause of our huge parts bills. Regular maintenance is probably not more expensive than driving an X5.Achim

Disco 2 TD5 MY 2001 - gone but still driven by another owner
Defender 110 TD5 driving me bananas with all faults
Disco 3 TDV 6 HSE MY 2005 gone @280.000 km
Disco 4 SDV 6 HSE MY 2012
My fuel bill is something like £5k a year, let alone repairs and maintenance. Mark.

Iggy you've got to much time on your hands
Looking at your stats my rate needs to increase steeply over the next year to bring me inline with previous garage repair bills
