Love my Discovery 4 but few issues
Hi All
I am new to the forum and have been reading posts for the past few months which have helped me a lot with my 2010 discovery HSE, thank you. The car is great for the family but issues do seem to come up every month which are becoming a little annoying and I wondered is anyone could recommend a mechanic close to London who maybe able to solve them without spending an arm and leg.
We have had the car 2 years when the front bushes went. We had a garage change them 2 months ago to the blue poly bushes only because I thought they would last longer, but to be honest you feel every bump in the road, including the white road markings. I want to change them back to the Land Rover bushes for that nice soft ride but the guy who did the poly bushes took hours to get the old ones off and it cost a fortune, I dont think he had the right tools. Can anyone recommend a person/garage who can replace them. I don't mind traveling an hour or two London for a good mechanic at a reasonable cost?
The second issue is the off side rear door lock. It sometimes works with the central locking and sometimes does not. The switch next to the door handle inside the car seems to sometimes just half move so either does not lock or stays locked. We have got the kids used to unlocking the car but sometimes when you lock the car at night you cant be sure that the door is locked.
The third issue is after just a few months of having the car the rear blind on the sunroof has come off its mountings so does not retract. I think the headliner needs to come down but a few mechanics I have asked don't want to look at it.
The fourth issue is that the navigation screen stops working every couple of months. I read on the forum to disconnect the battery, earth the cable and then re attach. This does work but it would be great to find the fault so we don't have to keep doing this.
Really love the car and would be great to find someone who has experience with these few issues. They must come up all the time. I have found someone in Yorkshire who sounds amazing but its a 4 hour drive from London and just a bit too far.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you
James

Hi RBP,
Thanks for the quick reply. I clicked the link but I am getting the message that I cannot PM him unless I have made 3 posts. Would there be another way to contact him?
Thanks
James

Wow your all fast for a Friday night. I'm in South West London. I'm happy with Kent, its much closer than Yorkshire and would love to find someone to look after our car. We tried Battersea Land rover once when our alternator went and they didn't even have jump leads that fitted the battery. Useless

I'm possibly not too far away from you if you ever need any fault codes reading. I have an IID tool, but that's all I can do. I so far have used Conrico in Chersey and Hunters/Guava in Guildford (both LR service centres) but expensive at around £90/hour (cheap for LR I think).
I have recently used Geoff for my 2010 for some brakes and a gearbox flush and found him great, and probably not too far from you either.

I can warmly recommend Moonwhizz in Ashtead. They'll collect your car and bring it back. Very convenient for me in Twickenham. They did a great job replacing both front lower wishbones, ARB bushes. They only use LR parts too... probably charge 2/3rds of main dealers, maybe less.

The roof lining does have to come out and I haven't done it personally but the dealer that did mine under warranty took two days to do it and when I picked the car up the guy said he hoped they didn't have to do that again! Cheers Ian
