Anyone remember 'Purple Aki'?

If that 'name' sends a shiver down your spine you probably grew up on Merseyside. I'd completely forgotten about this character, and was never really sure as a kid whether the stories were even true.

If you were ever taunted by older siblings and schoolmates that "Purple Aki's gonna get you" this show that popped up whilst browsing through iPlayer will brink back some memories Shocked

On a serious note, was a bit shocked to find this guy is actually still roaming the streets Shocked

Remember him only too well - put the fear of god into us when it was once reported that he had been down in the dunes at Formby woods.

From what I remember he was a pretty sad case all round - liked to hold people's muscles, - in today's world he would have probably been helped rather than persecuted.

While we were working in Manchester two of the lads, one of which who was a gym fanatic came back to site after a muscle feeling encounter with Purple Aki outside Sainsburys

only heard the threat rather than a first hand encounter.

as a young lad i'd have been safe anyway being a skinny whippet type! Embarassed

still puzzled as to the origin of the 'purple' bit?!

I think it was a reference to him being so black he was purple, well according to the BBC article anyway.
