Going to try and get my tank off tonight. Is there just one pipe?

The Haynes manual says only to remove one pipe and I cant find a picture on the web that shows both ends of the tank.

Im wondering if the air goes in and comes out of the tank from the one single pipe?

Cheers

there is only one pipe that goes into the tank , so the air does indeed go in and out of that single pipe, which is attached and controlled by the reservoir valve

the tank is just an air reservoir , to stop the air compressor from cycling on and off and allowing a large volume of air when req to fill the air struts , so it allows the air compressor to catch up as the air is used out of the air tank

make sure u have new bolts and a jack is very useful , careful not to bend the plastic pipe too much

hope that makes sense Laughing

no probs

is a good idea to spray all the bolts a good few hours before, as i had grief getting some out

also check the small tag at the end of the tank goes into the chassis correctly , before bolting it all up ,

Tank off after wrestling with the air hose and tank bolts.

Sprayed the tank with soapy water and pushed my workshop air compressor gun into the tank port and pressured up a little to find lots of soapy bubbles appearing form everywhere along the top of the tank. So its a new tank in the morning.

Cheers

Been thinking about fitting a new reservoir on mine ( before I find it resting on the bump stops Laughing ) how is the pipe connected, do I need to buy any other parts to do this swap successfully ?

Hi there.

4 x 10mm bolts holding the tank, needed a good soak with penetrating fluid and one 18mm, I think for the brass pipe fitting. The pipe seemed to stay stationary whilst the fitting was unscrewed.

There is a small tab that needs inserted to a hole on the air hose side of the tank bracket to the car bracket. Not too difficult but I will be using new bolts as the old ones were in bad shape. Lucky to get them off without a cold cut chisel.

But the car was up on four stands just in case it dropped with no air.

Thanks, just wondered if the pipe fitting would need replacing or not after disturbing it Thumbs Up

i was also worried about disturbing the air pipe

at the same time i also replaced the reservoir valve , considering its age and as i had all the cover off and had recently replaced the compressor thought it better then to replace them

finished off by bubble testing all the joints after fitting

reminds me to i've still got to fit the new air silencer i bought , as the old one has broken clips

fitted these pushfit connectors in the air tank and reservoir valve , as they had decent brass collars and wished to fit and forget

well for a bit anyway Laughing

I changed my air tank a couple of months ago and bought a voss fitting to connect the pipe back to the tank.

This wasn't needed as the new tank came with the correct pipe fitting.

There are tabs on each mounting bracket that need to be knocked back flat to make the tank easier to remove.

funny enough i took out the new voss connector and installed a brass pushfit fitting in there

personally found it a lot easier with a pushfit

them tabs were a pain, as when i first tried to install the tank i bolted it up then released the tabs weren't in correctly so took the tank out and realigned it

also replaced the existing voss connectors on the new reservoir valve i installed with the new pushfits

bubble tested everything after installing everything and was ok

alas though , got a drop on the front passenger side , over a 24 hr period , either it's the strut or leak on a fitting / pipe

all good fun Laughing
