centre sunroof shade

Hi all,

Have got a not critical but annoying problem. The sun shade for the centre sunroof keeps flying open when going over the smallest of bumps. The catch looks ok (although rather flimsy) and I can't see anything obviously wrong, but it's annoying as it makes us jump every time it flies open!

I realise I could just leave it open, but wondering if it's happened to anyone else and whether you managed to sort it?

TIA

I have the problem on my rear sun shade, it went into TVLR for it to have a new one fitted which appeared to be a hell of a job as they needed the car for 2 days. The new one stayed closed for just over a week then i went over a cattle grid and it popped open and wont stay closed again Laughing I'm just leaving it now.
 Cheers Ian

My middle and rear keep flying open, have not tried dealer yet, but have been tempted to try some super glue, as prefer them shut.

Just in case anyone is interested, I seem to have found a solution. There is a small plastic flap which presses on the catch on the centre and rear shades, although it is very weak which is why I think they were flying open. I bought some small adhesive foam pads and have place them under the plastic flap, applying more pressure to the shade catch but it still operates as normal except it now doesn't open of its' own accord!

Seems to have solved the problem, can't be seen and cost the grand total of 99p!

Just to be clear. The part you are packing is in the headlining rather than on the actual sunscreen? Thumbs Up

Hi, yes, packing out under a flap in the headlining, just where the catch locks in when closed.

I didn't remove anything and it took all of 30 seconds.

After 4 days away and several hundred miles, the shades haven't moved at all so all seems solved.

There is a reason why they will not stay closed Shocked the longer they are kept closed the weaker it will make the retracting spring, if ever you've been in a car or caravan (any make) where they have been closed permanently or for long periods the blinds will not retract because the spring has become weak. Best to close them only when necessary or not have them at all if you don't like a light interior.

Mines just started doing this, so thanks for the tip. When I get home I will have a go, rather than go to the dealers for two days!

Ps. It's got nothing to do with age.... it's a month old with 1200 miles on it Wink

Interesting, cannot see anyway to adjust the catch. I'll have to run it in to the dealers (I would just rather not, if it's something dead simple to fix)

First post on the forum, so hello to everyone.

I had this on my D4 Landmark, as others have said, it happens on new ones too.

Don't know whether it was coincidence or the force that the blind goes back with but my Whitefire module dropped out of the Headlining.

Took into my local Dealer and they replaced the Module and adjusted the blind catch and its been fine since.

There is a LR TSB LTB00084 which seems to suggest its because the headlining around the dome lamp isn't fitted properly.
