Result!!!
Arrived at NY airport and headed off to rent a blandmobile "Toyota Corolla or similar" and headed into the lot to select our chosen vehicle preceded by the 'customer helper'. Passing through all the 'premium' cars section I commented "you sure this one is ours?".
He stopped, paused for a second, and said "sure, take it, it's yours, I'll upgrade you"
This is what he gave us
And to think SWMBO's first thoughts were, "where we going to put all the cases?"
Trust me, the cases fit, I made sure of that

Holiday starts 'proper' in a few hours as we hit Niagra, obviously cruising there, hood down 8)
SWMBO has bought enough clothes for a month so may jettison some, not buy more. Boot in the Mustang got one very large case and two cabin cases in boot and second large case is on back seats. Job done

I take it that you didn't drive off to find that it was the new 1.6 litre diesel variant then? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄

It could be a 1.0 3-pot for all I care if it was this or a Corolla
It's the 2.3 litre 4-pot, 300bhp but can't say it feels like it having driven about 175 miles so far
Kept having cars slow down as they passed us on I80 last night to 'race'. Given they were all V8 'stangs, Chargers and 'vettes I, er, declined and they roared off doing 50mph wheel spins and smoke
Goes ok and we're cruising anyway so good enough for me

Oh yeah 8)
Let us know how you get on with it Aston.
Not, so far, being over impressed with the looks of the D5 I have just toyed with keeping the D3 and getting a Mustang just for the sheer hell of it. Seems like a lot of car for the money.Arthur.

If Euro tune/version is same as this it ain't gonna work.....
Good things are very euro switches, controls, infotainment, etc with much Fiesta/Focus/Mondeo bits recognisable (not a bad thing). It was VERY quiet hood up (but then only 70'ish cruising speeds). Good on fuel (UK equivalent for us of upper 30's mpg in US usage mode).
What didn't work for me was it didn't feel like 300bhp worth, wasn't speedy at all. Think that was mostly the gearbox maybe It was very 'slurrey', like an old 3 or 4 speed box, quite CVT'ish with revs and no go
Fit and finish of interior/hood good but leather seats were limited to the very central panels, needs bolsters in leather also (accept sides/backs in vinyl, no probs) as very sweaty in shorts.
Paint finish good on first look but not on closer inspection and panel fit not great, at wing/bonnet/door mirror poor especially.
Suspension felt bit soft and wallowy, worked in US, and I would think/expect this has been fettled for Euro.
Seems good VFM but needs gearbox/tune sorting IMO to sell over here
Got this grey, bland, thing for last Boston to NY leg
Sleeping tablets in car form, BUT, if you're not interested in cars (at all) nothing wrong with it; easy to drive, comfortable, economical Zzzzzzzzzz...........

I had a "stang convertible in 2013 in Florida and swapped it for a Dodgey Caravan exec with 6 seats (captains chairs) and electric everything. I hated the Stang with a passion.

It would have to be, the 13MY was a dog. I had a Chrysler 300 V8 in 2011 and it drove like a Vectra/Hovercar. Most of what I drove over there in the last 20 years or so have been dreadful in comparison to the Euro equivalent. Made the Deafener feel well sporty like! FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!
