Transmission fault [F] etc after MOT

Hi

I had my disco MOTd - needed a new rear wishbone upper rear. Bushes needed to be replaced too.
Tyre on that side had worn bald on the inside edge - not surprising I guess.

Since repair - I'm getting the [F] Transmission fault - Suspension lowers, all modes disabled etc. Most often at speed (but has happened off-road and also 20 mph in the lanes)

I've read lots of posts on here - I am -assuming- it's related to the wishbone renewal - but there seem to be a huge range (I couldn't spell smorgasbord) of reasons from bulbs to sensors.

I would also add - we did the V8 brake upgrade at the same time - and wonder if a sensor wire of height sensor could also have been disturbed. I was going to book it in for the 4-wheel alignment and a tyre.

All thoughts gratefully received- Thanks in advance.

RG

Censored - that hasn't fixed it...

...had the 4 wheel tracking done this morning.

The [F] & failure had started getting more frequent.
Did last almost all the way home - and [F] etc again.

Have a call in with the main dealer to confirm they recalibrated the steering sensor too.

Back to the drawing board maybe

You cannot calibrate the steering angle sensor before the 4 wheel alignment as this just wont work.

If that's what you've done, and it does read like this, you still need the steering angle sensor recalibrating. Thumbs Up

It is essential you have these done in the correct order. Rolling Eyes

Also could be possible the steering angle sensor drive collar has come away from the steering shaft so in essence the steering wheel turns but the car doesn't know it, then has a hissy fit when other sensors in the car pick it up. That's what was happening to mine. Some adhesive and a recalibration and viola. Mine was giving the HDC fault, special programs blah blah too.

Thanks all/both

I booked the car into the main dealer with the instruction "I've had a wishbone replaced - now I'm getting the [F] Transmission error - Wisdom tells me I need to have the 4-wheel alignment done and please make sure (as part of that) that the steering sensor is recalibrated"
Got the reply - the steering sensor is part of the recalibration - which I took to mean that's standard (& in the right order?)

Phoned them to check - they say "Yes"

As I said - we did the V8 brakes at the same time as the wishbone - so will go back to my mechanic and see if we can put it up on his ramp and check that nothing else has been disturbed like a level sensor.

Will also read the codes and post here

As always - thanks all
(Does anyone know if Kris "woody32" is away at the moment .?

Where did the random musical instrument come into this? Laughing Laughing Laughing
Maybe the bloke who did the recalibration was playing a stringed instrument. Yeah pretty random. Rolling Eyes

I've searched & failed to find a post with -the steering angle sensor physical location- please

While I'm in there - brake switch & bulbs

There seem to be several different avenues to go down with this fault - I did see one talking turbo actuator, we were under one of the wheel arch covers while doing the brakes - to connect the brake pad wear sensor - have we dislodged something there...
...also one one rear wishbone (left I think, not the side we replaced) again, for brake pad wear sensor.

All help gratefully received, thanks

Bah!

Still having [F] Transmission fault - and it's getting more frequent.......

....except - I've had a trailer on for about a week, sometimes loaded sometimes empty - never once had the [F] - does that point to any one of the known causes?

Thanks again

Hi

I haven't - I had them cleared at my local garage about 3 weeks ago - so those logged would be related to this - just not had time to go back.

Tomorrow I will be reading codes 'like a goodun' with my Nanocom that's coming from the forum.

This may have nothing to do with it (and I'm sure others will advise that I'm being a total muppet) but is it possible that someone has damaged the compressor when jacking the vehicle during all these repairs? Not enough to completely fubar it, but enough to cause a leak in the system somewhere?
