Thumbs Up too much Money in it now. Then the drugs scandal and the IOC screw up. Should never have been held in Brazil. See the Royal Family have done their usual and gone down en mass. Suppose I shouldn't be surprised, they never do a hands turn, so why start now. Rolling Eyes

He's got a point. Personally I feel rescheduling Casualty because of the Olympics is unforgivable. Whistle

Why do we spend millions on people to train them to run in a circle or throw a spear or a stone? All vital societal skills now that the dinosaurs are gone and we have moved out of the caves.
In my youth, Olympians were to be admired because they were amateurs, not merely state sponsored automata. I miss those days long ago when the Olympics wasn't just a very rich corporation organising a competition which is just a less bloody substitute for global war. For me, it all started to sour in 1972 in Munich, then 1976 with the Russian boycott.

I think their are lots of people who do Olympic sports who don't get paid millions
Like judo - a lot of my friends do judo for a living
Funding is near zero
They do it because it's a vocation
It does amaze me that a sport like golf can make it into the Games or that prof tennis players can do Wimbledon one week and win£2 million yet be in the games he next
Very sad
My sport is a minority and gets little tv coverage
Personally I like it
It's some escapism
And vital publicity for those smaller sports
 Yes another one...

I didn't say anyone gets paid millions, I asked why we spend millions.

"I didn't say anyone gets paid millions, I asked why we spend millions."

Maybe because it saves us more on the NHS. It might inspire more people to get off their fat lazy a Censoreds and get fit. Maybe not become Olypiums but fitter and healthier people.

Now where's that second bottle of vino Whistle

Sport England's own research tells us that less people are actively engaged in sports now than before the 2012 games.

The vino's over here. Very Happy

London 2012 was brilliant, I spent 7 weeks transporting the worlds athletes to and from events/training but not been impressed with Rio, perhaps it's different because I ain't there to take in the atmosphere.
