Monthly outgoings
I just finished with Sky, never watched it much anyway. so was just toting up my monthly outgoings. I pay out about £120 per month in outgoings, you know life insurance, electric, phone, broadband. Everything elce I pay once a year, like Council Tax, Car Tax, Car Insurance etc.
Just curious, I think I've got it quite low.

I think the lack of a mortgage and no finance probably helps.

This month we used 3 units of gas, thats approx 2.64 gbp plus standing charge of 5.19 gbp
Rest of bills also quite low (theres only the two of us), led lighting now getting really good and well worth looking at, they are roughly using 10 percent of the comparable std bulb.

That does seem good.
Raiders, meant just monthly bills you have to pay rather than food.

Jesus RDR My mobile is PAYG on an old iPhone 4S. A tenner keeps me in calls for the year. I only text or call SWMBO and then only if it's life or death. Occasionally, every few months, I top up the kids PAYG if I am feeling generous, but again a tenner a time.

I spend half that on car tax a month!
My outgoing are horrendous really, luckily one of the kids goes in to a really lovely state primary in September so that saves me £800 a month... Just need the other one to do well and pass her 11+ and I can get her in to state in 2 years time.
Considering selling the D4 and buying a V8 Defender plus family wagon (earlier D4/D3 or Audi/Merc estate type thing) and having no finance.
Thing is the D4 is such a lovely thing to drive...!!
I should get the missus out to work really so I can semi retire, fed up of the corporate .... Rant over!! MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

HSE Winter wheels

I was brought up in a very frugal circumstance. Some things just stay with you like not owing money to anyone, not spending beyond your means, to watch every penny like it's your last, never to buy anything at full price, oh the list is endless.
I get taunted with the, "no pockets in a shroud." To which my reply is you can add them and then i can take it with me!
Dubs, your final para makes a lot of sense.

Why do you have to pay for kids to go to school?
I'm sure if that was the case up here I don't think many would be getting sent to school.
Or no one would have kids
