Diagnosis Disco 3 HSE 4.4L V8 PETROL
Good evening all,
My name is Antony. I am in Kenya, here we have very few LR3 expert mechanics. Kindly favor me with your advice...
I have a 2005 Disco 3. Its a PETROL 4.4L HSE. When driving...
1. Check engine light is on continuously at below 2000 revs.
2. Check engine light flashes on and off at above 3000 revs.
...(b) when engine is at idle, it hunts. That is the revs go slightly up, then down, then up, then down...and the engine sound foes the same. Up, down, up, down...matching the revs.
3. I often get the message reduced engine performance.
4. Engine lacks power to accelerate when going uphill. Makes it difficult to overtake other cars when going uphill. But after the hill, on flat ground, its slow to accelerate but after it goes okay.
5. Check battery light is always on.
6. Often get message HDC System Fault.
7. Often get message Park Brake fault.
8. From standard height, I am able to raise car to off road, then lower it to standard height, but to access height gets message suspension fault and amber light comes on dashboard. Switch engine of and light clears. Try again standard to access and suspension fault comes on.
9. Usually after long drive the car is hot at the pedals. The heat comes from the floor?
This is what I have noted.
I have also read engine error codes, which I have attached.
Also I attach images of the engine.
I know you are busy, but when you are free, please advice me...
1. How to resolve the issues.
2. If this particular engine is a good or troublesome model.
I had posted question before, but got no help.
Thank you and God bless you and families.

Have you tried cleaning the mass airflow sensor and throttle body? That could help with some of the running issues. See this vid on the throttle body:
(As I recall the vid may be of a V6, but the basics are the same).
What's the condition of the battery and alternator? Have you checked those for proper charging?
Check all the hoses for leaks/splits.
Try that and report back.
I have the V8 also.PAGODA

Same as above. Change the battery and make sure the alternator is charging. Make sure you fit the right spec of battery though.
Cleaning TB also helps on the V8.

Is the exhaust valve fault referring to an engine exhaust valve or the infamous EGR (exhaust gas recirculating) valve, if it's EGR that will cause some of your problems.
For the electrical faults have you checked there is a good earth from the chassis and engine to the battery? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

V8 is generally reliable.
Injector codes are probably the cause of the misfires and poor running, the code indicates either an issue with the wiring/voltage or bad injectors, given that six are showing as problematic I would lean towards a wiring issue, possible something damaged.==================================

Thanks. 1st 4*4, bought it second hand. Turning out to be a learning curve.
Plan is to...
Alternator and battery.
Engine service.
Clean MAF & Throttle Body.
Then get a mechanic to sort the error codes.
Replace Shock.
Now...
Transmission flush added to list.
Pointers towards best battery, service kit, and transmission fluid...
Thanks for the help.
Antony.

Good morning,
Many thanks for the advice. Now crawling the net to see where to buy. Hopefully will find a shop with all items.
Had no knowledge of the PVC valve...
Have I missed out on something else?
Please do add if there is.
Regard and do have a blessed day.
Antony.
Soon, as Landrover says, they will turn me, a simple farmer, into a mechanic.

Afternoon,
Fitted alternator from AF.
Then couldn't get Exide Battery 017te EA 1000 here.
So fitted Bosch 830A (EN) 100Ah 12V.
And....I have mixed results.
1. The HDC System Fault message has disappeared. (Hurray).
2. Check battery light is still on. Tried hard reset, but still on.
Do I need to clear with IID tool?
Thanks.
Antony.

Unable to clear check battery light using diagnostic tool.
Alternator is new and correct one.
Battery is new as per previous post.
Any pointers on how to solve? Please?
Thank you

Unable to clear it or it comes straight back on after you clear it?
Any fault codes? and what voltage do you have.==================================

First the small wins...
Did engine service and all P0201 - 0206 (Injector circuit/open cylinder) errors are gone.
Replaced alternatir and battery and HDC system fault message gone.
Replaced all brake pads and brakes are perfect.
Now...
1. Yes. Check battery light comes back on like 10 seconds after you switch on car.
Error code is P0622 Generator Field Terminal Circuit.
2. Engine has missfire.
No misfire error code in diagnosis. But all mechanics agree there is misfire.
Check engine light is on.
On the move and below 2000 revs, it remains on.
On the move at above 2000 revs, it starts flashing on and off.
Error codes are to do with Heated Oxygen Sensor, Bank 1 sensor 2.
And Bank 2 sensor 2.
Happy for achievement so far. Longing to have the car error free. Advice truly welcome, as here its difficult to find 100% good mechanic and with all required tools.
