Getting rid of dog odour
I've put a deposit down on an 8 month old HSE and am going to view this week but dealer just phoned to warn me that it smells of dogs . Very honest I thought. He says the valet team say they can get rid of the stinky dog smell but I am not so sure. I don't want a stinky Disco so does anyone know if it is possible to really get rid of that smell or am I best to walk away?

Can you get it in writing from the dealer if that they can't get rid of the smell, to your satisfaction, you can walk away and get your deposit back?Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Each to their own... but TBH I wouldn't have put a deposit down on a second hand car that I hadn't seen. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I don't think getting the deposit back will be an issue.

Good ! Well it's only going to go one of two ways ..he can get rid of the smell or he can't.....As Steve says if he will guarentee it then fine but there are lots of HSE's out there to choose from at the mo.

In my experience I would say beware.
My first company car was a Citroen BX, that had been used by one of the managers, who took Ned - his big hairy slobbery dog, everywhere with him. Ned was a good dog, but left lots of hair and fluids wherever he went.
When I picked up the car, it stank. I got a valet to come and have look at it, and his first comment was " Do you want me to just wash it sir, or would you also want a haircut, shampoo and set?"
Suffice to say that it always had a background odour to it, and dog hairs were everywhere for ever.

..I tend to agree with that.....especially when it's a bit damp with condensation perhaps 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Found this on the web - they look pretty serious, but £39 + Valet for their 'Odour Kill' sounds OK to me if it really works. Based in Essex.
Thanks for that and for all the other replies. There is hope then but a bit of a pain to travel 100 miles to get a car de-smelled. It feels like a trip to see the car is in order (clearly doors will have been left open prior to my arrival) just to see how stinky it is.
It was only attractive as a Jan 07, 1900miles on clock, £33.500.....but then it smells too. It seemed good value at first glance!
That is a stunning price; I paid not far short of that for an 11-month-old SE with 11,000 on it.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

If it's only done 1900 miles and is only 9 months old, then at that price, I'd say take it. Generaly dog odours build up over time, but with that few miles, unless it was a n old gerty who only traveled at 20mph and let the dog sleep it in overnight then it's probably that he can get it de-smellied.
You will most likely notice it when Damp as has already been said.
If it doens;t work, then you'll have to squirt ralgex up your nose & yo won't be able to smell anything else then!
