Usually happend after I'd been on the motorway for 5-10 miles. Slow down to about 40 and it would disappear. Gave me a right fright the first time as I was on my way to get a gearbox leak fixed and I thought I'd lost the box.

As mentioned previously, mine does the same occasionally. Normally my rear brakes are stone cold after a journey so next time it happens, I am going to try and keep driving for 5 minutes or so with the vibration and then stop and feel the brakes to see if there is an increase in temperature around the rear brake drum.

it's impossible to tell if front or back and as it starts feels like an uneven road surface then goes onto very harsh rumble strips it can last for a few miles in which time I have tried all sorts of things form changing gear with the shift command putting into neutral gentle braking and even harsh braking which slightly makes it worse then it fades and I continue with no more sign of a fault, as with all intermittent faults it's very difficult to track down.

Have you had the rear drums off and cleaned them out, amazing the amount of dust that collects in there, I do mine religiously every 6 months and never had this problem.
If dust balls and is held in position by centrifugal force if will throw the wheel(s) out of balance, my theory anyway.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I have this. I also have juddering under braking so I know I need to replace my front discs becuase they must be warped. If my disks are warped could this be the problem?

hi all, and thanks for the replies, this judder is much worse than a wheel or two out of balance and it cures itself as quick as it starts. the slightly warped brake discs would only really be felt when braking as the pads would be pushed back as soon as the brakes are released. there seems to be numerous ideas for this fault from the auto gearbox torque converter to handbrake mechanism and many bits in between, the next time it happens I will be ready with temperature checks etc as I feel it must be in the braking system somewhere, I still wonder if it could be the stability system throwing a wobbly but no lights come on as ever very confused,of Gorleston on Sea, thanks again

My vibration reappeared yesterday when driving about 50mph. I drove on for about 3 lies and then coasted to a stop without applying the brakes. When I felt the rear drums, the right one was quite warm while the left one was stone cold. I am going to re adjust the parking brakes using Bodsy's bible and will let you know how I get on.
