Poor radio reception...

Hi all,

Unrelated to my 'torrential rain' post, since getting the car a couple of months back, it's always had very poor reception on the radio. Sometimes ok, most of the time crapola. Is this a common issue, if so, what's the suggested fix? I'm assuming aerial is on the rear roof tail fin? Is it likely to be a loose connection/chaffed wire?

Thinking of going DAB anyway so maybe that will just solve everything? If so, any recommendations? Which unit/aerial etc..

Cheers in advance

Had this issue on a range rover sport.

The ariels are in the side rear windows. (brown lines, like heaters) Not sure if the disco is like this?

Anyway there is at least a unit (colour coded) per side on the RRS, in the roof.

One does FM only. (passenger on RRS white)
One does AM and FM (drivers side on RRS yellow)

The power wire to it had been trapped at the factory and it had broke.

Repaired and I now have AM reception, much better FM reception and FM in stereo. Massive improvement.

I think the units maybe in the tailgate on the disco

My FM reception went dodgy for a while - turned out I had nudged one of the press stud type connections on the rear window aerial while loading the car. Clicked it back on and all was good.

This may or may not be the problem but I'd certainly try it before you go removing trim panels, tracing out wires and swapping modules as it was certainly a quick (and free) fix.

Ha, I do indeed have a USB adapter plugged in (in fact, I have 1 in all available 12v sockets). However, only one is actively doing something (iPad charging for toddler). I'll get it unplugged today and see if it makes a difference.

Cheers all Razz

I had poor DAB receiption when I fitted a dashcam, which was plugged into the ciggy lighter socket. Someone on here suggested adding some 'ferrites' to the cable (I had to Google it). Purchased a couple, one for each end of the camera cable, from my local Maplins, job done. You may need the same for the iPad charger.

As previous posts, remove all usb ciggy charger things. I had one in the socket beneath the cubby box and it totally destroyed the radio reception. Thumbs Up
