| Weird vibrations, direction related.. |

Hi chaps..
Here's an interesting one. When I'm cruising at around 70mph/2000RPM-odd, there's a noticable difference in general timbre (sound, not wood) in the vehicle when going straight or in a right hand turn. It's present at any speed over 40-odd. A mild vibration. It sounds like the vehicle is seemingly working harder. In neutral standing still with no load the vehicle doesn't show the same characteristics. The vibration also disappears when I'm in a left hand bend, as if whatever's causing the vibration is unloaded. I checked the tyres to see if there was uneven wear, but they appear to be wearing the same, and there's no pulling to either side when moving, so I'd think the tracking is fine. There's no vibration in the steering either. I can feel it through the pedals and floor, like a general resonance in the system.
Any thoughts? Propshaft? Half shaft? Wheel bearing? Near catastrophic failure of the entire drivetrain? Land Rover owner paranoia?

Hi I've had that problem in the previous and present discovery , does it do it sometimes when you are in a straight line under a small amount off load or all the time , ? What size wheels do you have ? I replaced everything at the front , drive shafts , and the casing with a bearing in it that carries the drive shaft to the right hand wheel . Tracking the lot , didn't fix it lol , the only thing left to replace was the rear prop shaft universal joints , but because it wasn't that bad or done it all the time I sold the car before I got it done , but now my other one is doing it exactly the same , I had put 22 inch wheels on both and put it down to them , but if you haven't got 22 s it's probably not that, and worth checking rear universal spider joints in the prop shaft . It's under constant cruising load, in straight and right hand curves, disappears on left. The vehicle's on standard 255/60 R18 Pirellis. I was thinking it was down to how the drive train is loaded which somehow lessens on left hand turns due to the way the bits are spinning.
I'm going to have the wheels balanced just to eliminate that first.

Hi sounds as though it could be a drive shaft cv joint worn on the front drivers side , as it's very hard to diagnose problems through text but it does help to give some indication to start looking in the right direction

It's a weird one to describe. Sort of a 'you had to be there' kind of thing..
But thanks for the direction. I'll have them look at it while it's up on the ramp in a mo.
I've put about 8000 miles on it since january, so something was bound to give by now..

Well, took it to a garage around the corner. Track rod, tie rod and front right bearing all have a bit of movement in them.
