Changed a bulb, bought a battery!

The glovebox light hasn't worked since I got the car in March so I decided to change it last night.

After an hour of swearing and grazing my knuckles I had replaced the bulb and the fuse I blew after dropping the spare down the back of the panel, never to be seen again.

This morning I went to start her up and *click* nowt. Presumably the hour I had the door open and lights blazing ran the battery down.

Green flag came and jumped the car and pointed out the battery was charged below 50%. It's the original battery so instead of going to work today I've fitted a replacement.

And I bought some spare mini fuses.

Anyway, expensive bulb. ***GONE*** 2007 XS Manual in Wet Weekend (Stornoway Grey) ***GONE***

going to Hijack this one..

Read another thread some time ago regarding glovebox lights and prompted me to check mine as had never noticed a light when opening. I looked everywhere, unhooked the latches and dropped the box down too and could still not see a light fitment. Were there any models without this or am i just blind? Confused

Anyone got a pic as to where it is?

Can you see the switch when you open the glovebox? The little plunger fella with a white retaining clip in the middle. It's located at the top. If you can find it then you've got a light. Not sure about models without.

The Haynes has instructions to change the bulb with the switch assembly in place but I found it much easier to pop the whole assembly out.

No bother. Actually, since I'm out this evening here is the run down of what I did:

1) Put the glovebox in service position (the bit where you push down a bit on the side supports and the thing drops like a stone and empties your boiled sweets into the footwell)
2) Just inside the clips holding the switch in place is a white retaining clip. Gently pry that up with a small screwdriver. It doesn't need to come all the way off.
3) There is another switch assembly retaining clip near the switch. Push the clip together and the whole switch should now be loose.
4) Maneuver the switch assembly around quite a bit until you can drop it down. This step is fiddly but entirely possible.
5) You can now swap out the bulb for a new one using your hands instead of a screwdriver like I tried. Using a screwdriver caused the short that blew the fuse last night.
6) Refitting is the opposite of removal, you just need to with the switch assembly a bit to get it lined up. The white retaining clip will go back into position when you push the switch all the way in for the first time.

It's one of those 5w push fit bulbs you need. Can't remember the proper name off the top of my head. ***GONE*** 2007 XS Manual in Wet Weekend (Stornoway Grey) ***GONE***
