Problems Problems Problems |

Hi All,
I am hoping that you can give me a little peace of mind, cause I feel like I am losing mine. (Either that or tell me to STFU)
I purchased my Disco (57) with a little under 93k on the clock in late February. Thrilled with it, for a short couple of weeks.
Firstly, fuse on the horn went (No problem thanks to this forum)
Secondly, Brake Light sensor switch went (No problem thanks to this forum)
But NOW:
One LR garage has told me my front passenger driveshaft needs replacing, another garage has since told me I need a new steering rack, new brakes AND pads. Potentially also new drum brakes on the back.
I purchased the car in February with a full advisory free MOT & two years warranty with Axa. The dealer told me that the brakes were A ok. I've just had a lot of conflicting info.
Do I have an issue here? Or do I need to man up.
Any words of encouragement, abuse or advice welcome.

We can't answer that as we haven't read it - I am assuming you have, and did before buying it?
My guess is that it won't cover the brakes if the problem is just wear, but it may well cover the other problems.
You only have one course of action, take it to a dealer, or the dealer you bought it from, and check out the warranty. If that doesn't work look for a good independent cos that will be cheaper.
As for the MOT, it lasts for one year but is only valid on the day it is done, it doesn't guarantee the state of the car for the whole year. The brakes obviously passed the MOT test on that day. MOTs carried out by dealers to sell cars are not the most stringent of tests.

I could be wrong but recall something like brakes should be good for at least 5k? or have read thats what consumer law seems to think is acceptable?
You can check pad thickness yourself through the wheel and also check on the disc condition, if the disc has a hefty lip its possibly past its best.
