Paintwork scratch - who to repair? |
|
I have found a scratch in my paintwork. ITs a few inches down from the filler cover. Too deep to rub out.
Do I need to have it sorted by the dealer body shop to maintain my paintwork warranty? If not then anyone you would recommend in East Kent (near Canterbury).
2016MY HSE Corris Grey.
Cheers

Been calling around, LR dealer body shop and LR customer service. Basically the panel will not be covered for perforation and paintwork warranty if I use a non dealership repair.
Steeling myself for the quote !

So what are the chances of perforation? I can't ever recall on here any issues about paint work being an issue. I would have just gone to a local repairer. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

& find out who the local smart repair company is who the dealers use....
They all use smart paint & dent removal providers.....for delivery damage
Get the to look at it
This us what the dealers would do & charge you for a full panel BREXIT - done properly.

Gary what colour is it to start with, secondly why will it not polish out, is it down to the metal or primer. I have managed to polish out some serious scratches in the past with an electric polisher.
As for dealer or otherwise. If you go to most if not all dealers they use paint repair companies to do all their small scratches, they never normally send it to the paint shop and to be honest I have seen some very good work by paint repair companies, dependent on where you are in Kent I can recommend a good on that I have used in the past. Hi.
Tks all for your replies. That's very interesting about the small paint repairs. It's not polishable as I can feel it with my nail. Have had a go and got the shallower ends of it out. In the end I need to decide how comfortable I am with not having the paintwork and perforation warranty for that panel. It seems problems are few on these areas, so I know I should be ok, but I guess you never know.
I also have an A Glaze paintwork protection on the car that the dealer threw in so may want to get that restored to the panel.
Paintwork is Corris Grey and I am near Canterbury in East Kent. Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers

When I get home in the morning and have had sleep I will try to find the info for the bloke I used in the past, he was good and the repair was also warranted. He also stated from memory that he would do the repair and if I was not happy he would not charge, the work was good though MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Thought I would give you an update.
Whilst my car was in for the service I got the LR dealer body shop to check the scratch and give me an estimate. I have now rec'd the estimate , which is for a smart repair, and it is about 16% cheaper than a local smart repairer (not the one you recommended Russell, because of this lower than expected price I haven't contacted them).
Given my concerns with paint/perforation guarantees and the fact that I intend to keep the car for a while, it is booked in for next week.
Cheers
