Having a Dashcam fitted tomorrow

Hello Folks. I'm having a dashcam fitted tomorrow by Halfords. Went for the 20% discount when trading in my old one (which had never left the box and was cheap and cheerful). Going for the hard-wired solution and the young chap who's installing it didn't even blink when his boss asked whether a D3 would be a problem. Anyway, whilst I have complete faith in his technical abilities I would nevertheless like to know the best connection point in the fuse box......just in case he's actually never fitted one to a Disco if ya know watta mean. Whistle

Can't answer your question, but will be interested to hear the outcome! I'm about to take the plunge and get one of the Nextbase cams fitted to both the D3 and the BMW (the 20% trade-in thing is too good a chance to miss, and I've got a couple of old stereos kicking around in the shed which they'll accept as "trade-ins"!). I've heard a small number of stories about PowerMagic boxes causing issues with the on-board diagnostics in recent BMWs, but seeing as I'm just going for a straightforward direct-off-the-fusebox sort of install I don't foresee any issues - after all, putting a fuse-tap on, say, the accessory socket fuse to power the camera is no different to just plugging the same load into the socket itself.

Depends on whether you want to live all the time or only once the car is awake?

Fuse f58 and an add a fuse for awake live

I think it's f8 but not 100% for perm live on the towing electrics.

Not all dashcams use 12v feed so may need cigarette socket for transformer. Mines in glove box.

I believe the deal you've got from halfords is on a next base model?
The hardwire kit piggy backs fuses, so like bodsy said, pick a fuse that's switched and preferably for a peice of equipment that won't turn your car inside out if it blows.

I think I went for heated windscreen fuse. I couldn't find the ground in the fuse box area so ran it down to the bolts in the footwell below the door hinges.
Just have YouTube on hand if he's a bit unsure how trim panels come out and starts tugging randomly!

All done! Nine in the morning (opening time) and the young fella was ready to go. I went for a bacon butty and tea then returned 40 minutes later to find it all fitted and working. He then took me through the camera's set-up and operation. A pleasure to receive such good service. I'm very pleased. Well done Halfords (Mansfield). Thumbs Up

I had the NextBase dash cam installed by Halfords as well (Hamilton, Strathclyde) and it's a very neat job.

Only issue I have is that the camera can do loads of things and I haven't got to grips with any of them yet.

And a word of warning - it records sound by default, and seems geared to picking up singing and swearing. If only the kids would keep quiet in the back....

£30 according to the website.

Only thing with the Nextbase ones is they are quite big, reckon they are a security risk if left in an unattended car. Much prefer the BlackVue design which is very discreet.
