Terrain selection knob doesn't work/has no effect |
|
Hi,
I'm looking at a used 77k Disco 3 V8 (I'm in the US). The car is a one-owner and clean, although it's been used by a "soccer mom" for school runs. One of the issues that I'm concerned about is that the rotary terrain selection knob doesn't work. When turned, the programme and lights don't change, however there aren't any red lights/bongs of doom. I've searched the forum and the only posts I can find relate to water getting into the switch from the sunroof being left open. I'm not sure whether that's the case on this car. The owner says it's been like this for 18 months or so.
Any easy checks? One post I read said replace the unit. Can anyone provide the correct name (and PN if poss) so i can call to price it over here?
Thanks for any advice on this. PAGODA

Thanks guys.
First, the VIN is prior to that listed for that PN, but thanks AN (and if you know the PN for the earlier VIN, it'd be great!)
Second, isn't the fuse that protects that related to other functions in the car that would result in a fault being thrown up? Or is it protected by its own fuse alone. I don't get why I'm not looking at a christmas tree dash given the fault. The car drives perfectly well showing no faults, which is why I think it's a bit odd. PAGODA

Might it be possible that the owner had some issues with it, Dealer asked silly amount of money to fixx it, and the owner some how managed to disable it in CCF to prevent any faults showing up in the dash prior to sale??

I remember having a problem, the car simply wouldn't start/turn over, the main dealer, along with the LR tech dept spending three days exploring various options and it turned out to be a simple faulty ignition switch.
Sometimes people over look the obvious, I'd be checking the TC switch.
