A sign of things to come with the D5?
Long drive today and sat behind various RRS2's and started to notice the cr@p allignment of the tailgate. If you follow the line above the number plate and look where it meets the corresponding line above the tail lights the left and right sides were very noticeably different on them all to the point I would have been asking the dealer to fix them. One was a good 1cm lower on one side.
Wonder if the new D5 will inherit these characteristics with similar body manufacturing being used? I would not have been happy with any of them.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

There's no particular reason why a unitary construction car, on a modern, automated, production line should be anything other than consistent and accurate, so what you've see is hard to understand.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Door and tailgate alignment are done by hand, you'll be surprised and possibly shocked how it is achieved, or not achieved as in the case above.

I've been to a fair few production lines and seen it done, but it was only the Classic Mini line where such things were forced in to place with pry bars! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

When the last Defender was built and was being shown on the news there was a brief clip of the production line. One of the operatives closed the the drivers door, opened it, gave it a damned good twist against its hinges, closed it again and, now happy with the fit, let it roll on.
I've done that a few times in the past on my old Series 3 lightweight, I just never knew they started off that way.Arthur.
Comedy was a horse, Harvey a dog, both sadly gone. Thought I was choosing a password!

The top section of the tailgate on both my previous MY14 and current MY15 needed adjustment by the dealer. As did the o/s passenger door on the MY14.
Pretty poor on vehicles costing in excess of £55k.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Absolutely nothing wrong with aligning the doors like that, all material especially metal has a memory and you just have to adjust that at times, not only do you twist is but you will close the doors on special pads and also give them some slight persuasion with the said pad as well. Show me a manufacturer that doesn't do similar and ill show my ar5e in woolworths window haha.
Also I suppose the new one may have an electric tailgate, that will stop us from slamming our 60k dicoverys tailgates shut

Oh yeah, that makes it okay then. It was a bit much to expect someone at the LR plant to open and close the tailgate to check it's aligned properly. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

They do, they have specific lines for this very process, i do know that the front wing on a evoque looks odd as there is a plastic infill that makes the line look out of alignment. Maybe its something like this?
I do know when i had a DS for the day as a loan car from my dealer that the boot was that much out of line it looked like it was open. I definitely know it wouldn't of come out of the factory like that so maybe they'd done something to it themselves or it had had a knock

I must admit, I never did a visual check to see what the shut lines looked like on either of them. I just knew, from my previous D3 & D4, that it shouldn't be necessary for me to have to put a big effort into slamming the tailgate to get it to shut properly. The rest of the family weren't able to do it, so I'd have to.
It was an easy fix for the dealer and for me just part of buying process. I've yet to buy a new Discovery that didn't have minor little niggles.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
