My D3 has 17" on - S model.
To my amazement TWT here in town refused to repair the puncture - according to them they are not allowed to repair any puncture on the sidewall as this poses a danger. Now I can understand DAMAGE but this is a thorn not even 3 mm thick on the side of the tread. So I have asked them to put the spare on and I will repair the puncture myself and put the repaired one on spare.

i think thats the law. Nothing you can do. Sidewall damage = throw away. Your call on the repair but be very sure before you put it on the vehicle

Deon I had a panel pin in the sidewall of my D2 slow puncture. I pulled the dam panel pin and upgrade a slow puncture (pump every 3 days) to a fast puncture  them they told me the same sh_t the tyre had 11k on.
Mate of mine had a tyre dealership and fixed it for me. Spare it became. I got a flat in Scottsburg put the spare on, stopped at the Mobil in Harrysmith, hell there was a bubble of note on the tyre sidewall my luck it was on the outside and I saw it. 
I dont think it would have made JHB if it would have popped on the road I would have been with a loaded 4x4 trailer on tow.
Deon its a 500k wagon plus a trip plus you and all others in the wagon that could go for a ball of for a 3k tyre.

Deon I forgot - I have 5 17 " OEM tyres (they were on the rims I swapped)
I can lend you some if you like or make me an offer

I don't know what the law is in SA but here it is legal to repair sidewalls with a special process but most tyre places can't do it and have a policy of not doing any repairs to sidewall.
I got apuncture on a brand new cooper in the tread at the edge of the tyre.
Took it back to Bob Janes where I bought the tyres. They said new tyre 
I had to go through Bob Janes to buy due to lease.
Went to the guy who I normally buy from, they do a lot of truck tyres. No problem, said that is in the tread not the side wall.
