Where is my DAB receiver?

Had strange issue today. Just fitted a dash cam that has a separate GPS receiver that plugs into it. Went out today to give a try (camera was fine) but the DAB radio reception was terrible. Did a 60 mile round trip and constantly breaking up and just wondering if it was the dash and/or the GPS causing the issues. Cam is positioned in the usual spot next to the RVM.
Thought I had read that the DAB receiver is in the fin above the boot - but couldn't find any confirmation of that.

Dab antenna is fitted in the roof pod Thumbs Up

I had the same issue when I fitted my dash cam

Got myself a hand full of ferrites and popped them on the camera coax cable ... Made an improvement... But not totally cured the issue

I thought 'ferrites' were small fury animals that you send down holes to chase out rabbits Wink - better google that.

After a bit more experimenting today - The dash cam GPS receiver is not causing this, same issue with DAB when GPS wasn't connected. When cam is plugged in to the power, via ciggy lighter plug thingy, I get the bad DAB reception. Cam will work briefly while not plugged in, DAB reception is fine immediately after i unplug from ciggy lighter. Tried both connectors, same issue.

I do have another power cable I could try, to see if its that.

My GPS is built into my camera .. The lead I had to suppress was the one going to the rear camera .. But I also put some on the power lead to the front camera

We have our dash cam hard wired in behind the glove box no issues with DAB radio.

I now know what the black things are on various cable connectors - ferrites - every day is a school day.

I will probably try one of these first, see if makes any difference. If not maybe look at hard wiring it in to a fuse behind glove box as suggested.

£7 spent in Maplins on a couple of ferrite clips - one each end of the power lead - problem solved. thanks wiggs Thumbs Up
