Blown fuse, heater element kaput, you can actually feel the heat with your hand when they are workin It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks, I will check whether it is actually heating up in the morning, if not I will have a look at the fuse, then its onto checking the continuity of the mirror connections.

Hi David - did you ever find the fault with your mirror, as I have the same error and I noticed the other morning that it did not appear to be heating (even though the drivers side did). I do not think there is a single fuse for the heating of the mirror (from the manual it looks like there is a fuse for the whole control module), so I am assuming it is the heating element of the mirror itself but wanted too see what yours turned out to be.

Hi Andy
I haven't had time to do anything about it over the summer, but I am about to try fitting a new mirror glass, I will post on here if it cures it, please do the same if you have any result.
All the best DavidDavid

Thanks David. I think the glass is likely to be the culprit as there is not a single fuse and it is the same type of error that the car reports when a bulb blows. Let me know how you get on and I'll do the same if I get there first . There is a YouTube video that looks handy for the change if that helps:

Quick update. Finally got around to replacing the passenger wing mirror glass last weekend as I get an intermittent error on the IID showing a general electrical failure for that mirror and I noticed that it was not heating on some occasions. Was easy enough to get the old glass out with a screwdriver. I noticed that one of the contacts for the heating element had detached from the mirror and was just held on by the mirror backing. Fitted new one and wow, what a difference. Now the whole mirror clears really quickly. Just ordered a new driver's side one as it takes ages to clear and only in places.
Error now cleared and not reappeared Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE '65 - Projects in planning phase!
